Division III JV Championship: Ballenger Creek 37 Maryland School for the Deaf 27
WOW!
What a game! Since it was the championship game, both teams were
prepared to go hard for the whole game. Aggressive defense and turnovers
kept the game moving quickly. Ballenger Creek, while trying to keep
their undefeated season, was winning 12 - 6 at the end of the first
quarter. MSD kept playing hard and both teams were ready to rest at
half-time, with Ballenger still leading 22 - 14. The second half of the
game saw both teams getting a bit tired and committing more fouls.
Fortunately for Ballenger Creek, they were not distracted by the MSD
fans making noise during their foul shots. The hard playing continued
until the end, when Ballenger Creek won 37 - 27, ending their season at
19 - 0.
Ruth
Evans lead Ballenger's scoring with ten points. She was followed by
Sydney Clayton with nine points, Augusta Kamara with seven points,
Marley Tierney with four points, Makenzie Holston with three points and
Sydney Brooks and Brittany Clinedinst each with two. The remaining Lady
Bulldogs--Maddie Mandich, Kendall Jones, Holly Christensen, Megan Corsi
and Kelly Burns also contributed to the game with both aggressive
offense and defense.
Karita Lewis with the high scorer for MSD, putting in nineteen of MSD's twenty-seven points! Kaitlyn Weeks added four and Eve Wood-Jacobowitz and Tamia Harris each added two.
Congratulations to both teams for their great seasons!
Division 1 JV Championship: Windsor Knolls 34 Oakdale 24
The Undefeated
WKMS JV Girls finished their story book season with a championship
victory in a tough game against Oakdale. Windsor Knolls knew the game
would be a tough one, against what proved to be their
toughest opponent in the regular season, but they were determined to
remain undefeated and win the championship game. The WKMS team was lead
by their co-captains Ashleigh Bonanno and Meredith Lapen. Ashleigh had
the game high 14 points while Meredith and
Tara AKA “T-Dog” each chipped in 8 points. WKMS started the game with a
14-1 lead, and although Oakdale was able to cut it to 6, they were
never able to take the lead, and the Wolverines walked away with the
win, 34-24 to remain undefeated at 19-0, and take
the first place trophy for both the division and the tournament.
Division III Varsity Championship: Catoctin 37 North Hagerstown 27
The Catoctin Lady Cougars in a tight game throughout defeated the Hubs from
North Hagerstown 37-27 in the division three championship game. Even though
the hubs were in foul trouble all game they continued to play hard and gave
the Lady Cougars all they could handle. It was an intense championship game that
capped off a great season for the Catoctin Lady Cougars! Congratulations to
North Hagerstown for a great game and a great season!
3/11/2012Division II JV Championship: Springfield 46 West Frederick 24
The Division 2 JV Championship game matched the top 2 seeds from the
regular season in Springfield and West Frederick. The defenses for both
sides dominated the early going with neither team able to get a firm
grasp of the lead in the first quarter. An Eryn McVicker 3 pointer from
the baseline helped Springfield grab a 7-3 lead after one quarter.
Springfield turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter
forcing several turnovers, and extending the lead. Another Eryn McVicker
3 pointer and a pair of Lexie Robinson field goals pushed the advantage
to 18-6 early in the 2nd quarter. Both teams continued to play very
hard and determined, but Springfield kept adding to the lead. A nice
bounce pass from Lexie Robinson to Diva Bowman with under 6 seconds to
go in the half made the halftime advantage for Springfield 28-9.
McVicker led all scorers at the half with 9 points. West Frederick came
out fired up to start the 3rd quarter and pressured Springfield into a
few turnovers to start the half as a pair of field goals from Gabby
Fuatantuono and Kyrsten Linthicum cut the Springfield advantage to under
20 points. Springfield answered with baskets from Eryn McVicker,
Kaitlin Murphy, Lexie Robinson and Olivia Zisa to keep West Frederick at
bay. Springfield led 38-19 after 3 quarters. Chandler Thomas hit a 3
pointer early in the 4th as West Frederick would not quit. Springfield
kept their composure and hit key baskets in the final frame, and Eryn
McVicker's superb ballhandling and passing would not let West Frederick
get any closer than 17 points the rest of the way. Springfield finished
off their season with a perfect record of 20-0 and the Division 2 JV
Championship. Congratulations to West Frederick on an incredible season!
The Lady Cadets were near the top of the standings all season long.
Eryn McVicker led all scorers with 15 points to go along with 6 steals
and 5 assists. Gabby Fuatantuono led West Frederick with 8 points.

Division II JV: Springfield 37 Boonsboro 10
Both
teams came out playing hard with neither team gaining a real advantage
in the early going. Two Abby Harrah field goals cut the Springfield lead
to 8-6 after the 1st quarter. Springfield's pressure defense took it's
toll on Boonsboro in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady
Warriors 9-0 to take a 17-6 halftime lead. Both teams missed out on
several opportunities to score from the foul line in the 2nd quarter as
Boonsboro missed on the front end of the one and one three times, and
Springfield went just 1 for 12 from the foul line in the quarter.
Springfield continued to play strong defense in the 3rd quarter limiting
Boonsboro to just 2 points. The Lady Cats went 6 of 6 from the foul
line in the 3rd and got baskets from Jazmine Yost, Diva Bowman, and
Madison Riley to extend the lead to 29-8 after 3 quarters. Both teams
continued to play aggressive to the end as Springfield closed out the
game on an 8-2 run, winning 37-10. Congratulations on a great season to a
Boonsboro team that continued to get better and better as the season
progressed. Springfield's record stands at 19-0 going into the

For
the third straight year, these two teams have met in the championship
game. Urbana started the game with a 6-0 run but Oakdale responded with
five unanswered points to make it a 6-5 game. This turned out to be the
story of the game; Urbana would make a run and Oakdale would battle back
but could never quite catch the Hawks. At the half, Urbana was ahead
26-17. With four minutes remaining, Oakdale was able to cut the lead to
four; however, in this physical game, Urbana was able to outmuscle the
Oakdale girls and score numerous baskets in the paint to end the game
with a comfortable seven point margin.
Oakdale was led in scoring by
Emma Bowman with 20 points and Amber Albrecht with 11. Kendall Ohm
worked the boards with 11 rebounds and Emma snagged 10. Sara Parnes was
able to have five take aways from the Hawks.
Urbana
scoring was led in scoring by Katie Aquino with 20 points, while
grabbing 13 rebounds in the process. Gaelin Hirabayashi had 13 points
for the Hawks while playing great defense and limiting the outside
shooting of Oakdale. Emma Watt contributed 3 points to the cause while
co-captain Kendall Bresee was one point shy of a triple double
and Carryn Jurgens helped lead the team with 5 rebounds, 6 steals and 4
assists.
Varsity: Monocacy 52 - West Frederick 47 OT
In a thrilling final,Monocacy defeated West Frederick 52-47 in
overtime to win the Division 2 Varsity Championship.It was a well
played,physical game that saw the lead change numerous times,with
neither team leading by more than five points.West Frederick had a five
point lead with less than a minute left,only to have Monocacy tied it up
and force overtime.The winners outscored West Frederick 7-2 in
overtime.
Monocacy got a game high 16 points from Mollie McSweeney,14 points
from Tyrae Byrd,10 points from Tanaisia Jow,and six points from
Charlotte Kowalk.
West Frederick got 12 points from Aniss Grant,11 points from Randi Dollar,and 10 points from Dajah Gee.
Division III JV: Catoctin MSD
MSD and Catoctin played an extremely intense semifinal game on
Saturday. Defense was the name of this game as MSD edged Catoctin 13-11
to move onto the championship. Catoctin actually led most of the
game. They led 5-4 after the first quarter and 8-6 at halftime. They
continued to hold the lead at 10-8 after three. MSD though took the
fourth quarter 5-1 to win the game. Karita Lewis led MSD with 8 points,
Tamia Harris and Julianna Bahan each scored 2 points and Freya Seremeth
had 1 point. For Catoctin Michaela Persinger led the way with 7
points, Lauren Drumheller had 2 points and Alexi Baumgardner and
Courtney Orndorff each had 1 point.
Varsity: Walkersville 29 Urbana 30
The 3rd seed Urbana Hawks and 2nd seed
Walkersville Lady Lions put on an excellent show Saturday afternoon in
front of a packed gym. This semi-final game matched two excellent
coached teams and the game did not disappoint anyone in the
crowd. After leading most of the game Urbana saw the lead cut in the 4th
quarter due to a changing defense and great play by the Lady Lions.
Walkersville had an opportunity to take the lead several times in the
last few minutes, but the Hawks
held strong and prevailed after a shot with .03 seconds by the Lady
Lions missed it’s mark. The Lady Hawks were led by Kendall Bresee 13
points, Gaelin Hirabayashi 9 pts, Emma Watt 6 pts and Kelly McCarthy 2
pts. Urbana led at the half 18-13. The Lady Lions
were led by McKenzie Mathis 10 pts and 3 steals, MacKenzie White 8 pts 3
steals, Emma Crouch 6 pts, Shelby Williams 2 pts and 5 rebounds,
Auriana Johnson 2 pts, and Anastasia Miller 1 point.
JV: Ballenger Creek 34 vs. Smithsburg 23
In
a closely-played semi-final game, both teams were hungry for the win.
Although Ballenger Creek had won both previous matches, everyone knew
this would be hard-fought game. Following a somewhat slow start,
Ballenger Creek began to hit some shots, ending the first quarter
leading 12 - 3. With both teams not scoring much in the second quarter,
the game went into halftime with Ballenger leading 19 - 4. Many fouls
were committed throughout the game, but neither team was able to use
this to an advantage. Smithsburg actually outscored Ballenger in the
second half, but Ballenger held on to win the game 34 - 23.
Ruth
Evans lead the scoring for Ballenger Creek with nine points, followed
by Augusta Kamara with seven points, Makenzie Holston and Sydney Clayton
each with six points, Brittany Clinedinst with four points and Kendall
Jones and Marley Tierney each with one point.
Smithsburg was lead by Erica Lindsay and Katherine
Thorn, with five points each. Kenzie Stout and Hailey Bachtell each
contributed four points, Faith Bruchey added three and Brett Grove added
the remaining two for Smithsburg.

The opening round of playoffs saw a match up between the #3 seeded Lady Lions and
the #6 seeded TJ Patriots. The Patriots came out strong in the opening quarter
and controled most of the first half taking a 21-16 lead into the half.efore
Walkersville was able to come at and take control of the 3rd quarter out scoring
the Pariots 8-3. With the score tied going into the 4th qaurter never team would
score alot, in the end TJ was able to take advantage of a Walkersville mistake
to take the lead with 14 seconds and defeat the Lady Lions 28-25 to move on to
the semi finals.

For
Walkersville Carlie Hopkins had 8 points,Taylor Diggs had 5, Maddie Hommey and
Taylor Stair each had 4, and Regan Farr and Claire Kotchenreuther added 2
each.
Division III Varsity: Catoctin 40 St. John's 15
Catoctin and St. Johns met in a semi-final matchup on Saturday afternoon, The
Lady Cougars led throughout the game and were able to defeat a hard nosed St.
Johns team 40-15. Great teamwork by the cougars on both sides of the court
led to the victory. Catoctin heads to the final on Monday night.
Division II JV: West Frederick 22 Monacacy 17
These two teams split in the regular season and today was the rubber
match. Both squads came out and played tough defense. At the end of 1 is
was a 2-2 tie. The Lady Cadets won the second period and at the half it
was 10-4. The defensive battle continued in the second half and the
Lady Cadets went on to victory to play in the Championship game on
Sunday.
Monacacy scorer's were Jessie Hoult 6 pts, Taylor Stafford 5 pts, Michaela Joannides 4 pts and Jessie Titus 2 pts.
West Frederick was led by Monet Wade with 7 pts followed by Kyrsten
Linthicum 6 pts, Delaney Irwin 3 pts, Chandler Thomas 2 pts, Gabby
Fratantuono 2 pts and Julia Slaton 2 pts.

Division I Varsity: Oakdale 46 Windsor Knolls 37
Windsor Knolls started the game with the hot hand and
raced out to a 12-3 lead. Oakdale managed to find their rhythm and was
able to close the gap to a 3 point margin; however, Windsor Knolls
pushed the pace and ended the half with a nine point lead. Oakdale game
out in the second half with renewed determination and was able to pull
ahead by a basket at the end of the third. Though Windsor Knolls would
tie the game one more time in the fourth, Oakdale was able to pull ahead
for good with about four minutes to play. A key shot during this time
frame was a three pointer by Emily Scott which increased the lead to
five. Leading scorers for Oakdale were Amber Albrecht with 15, Emma
Bowman with 12, and Kendall Ohm with 9. Sara Parnes contributed to the
effort with four steals.
Windsor Knolls was led in scoring by Regan Lohr with 16 and Novelsol with 8.
Division III JV: Catoctin 28 Clear Spring 19
The Catoctin Lady Cougars and Clear Spring Lady Blazers met for a late
night showdown in round 1 of the playoffs Friday night. This game was a
defensive struggle throughout. Catoctin jumped out to a 7-2 first
quarter lead and led 11-4 at the half. Clear Spring came out strong in
the 3rd quarter and cut the lead to 16-12 after three quarters.
Catoctin played well in the 4th quarter to win the game 28-19. Both
teams played extremely hard and scoring was hard to come by. Catoctin
outscored Clear Spring 12-1 from the foul line and that proved to be the
difference. Catoctin was led by Michaela Persinger with 9 points and
10 rebounds. Emily Keller had 7 points and 4 steals. Lauren Drumheller
provided a tremendous lift in her first game back after almost 2 months
off with an injury by scoring 4 points and collecting 3 rebounds.
Carrie Reaver, Courtney Orndorff, Alexis Smith and Camryn Skowronski all
had 2 points. For Clear Spring Hannah Bowers had a strong game with 10
points. Madlyn McDonough had 5 points, Jill Bender and Madeline
Buchanan each scored 2 points.
Division I JV: Poolesville 19 Middletown 17
In another hard
fought game against Middletown, the Poolesville JV Girls came away with a close
one topping the Lady Knights 19-17. It took a quarter to get the playoff jitters
out for both teams as they were locked in a 3-3 tie after one. Poolesville won
the second quarter playing tenacious defense and getting five of her game nine
points from Hailey Khalil in the quarter. The Falcons led at the half 12-7. The
second half was a low scoring but intense contest as both teams played
aggressive defense and limited the other’s scoring opportunities. Middletown had
a chance to tie the score or go ahead with a three pointer with 4.6 seconds left
but Poolesville’s defense prevailed in the end and the Falcons were able to hold
onto a close one.
Erin Green, Samme
Mullikin, Delaney Cecco, Bella Gardner, Danielle Torres and Kate Heimbach all
took turns guarding Middletown’s force on the inside, Helen Holt, holding her to
two points in the contest. They also did a great job of keeping Middletown off
the glass.
Hailey Khalil,
Hannah Bush, Haley Harkins, Siann Riggs, Madi Peyton, and Beckah Trainor,
applied the pressure on the perimeter and harassed Middletown’s ball handlers
into several steals that lead to fast break points for the
Falcons.
Madi Peyton
chipped in five points for the falcons while Samme Mullikin and Delaney Cecco
added three and two points respectively.
Kristen Beckner
led Middletown in scoring with nine points. Helen Holt, Helena Ottenritter and
Katie Stottlemeyer added two a piece. Lindsey Brant and Hannah Sledzik both also
scored for Middletown.
3/8/2012Division III JV: Smithsburg 28 St. John's 13
Smithsburg pulls out a win against St. John's in the first round of the Division III JV tournament at MSD.
Smithsburg
was led by Hailey Bachtell's eight points with teammate Katherine Thorn
adding six. St. John's leading scorer was Sarah Case with five.
Smithsburg will take on #1 seed Ballenger Creek on Saturday at noon.
Division II JV: West Frederick 36 South Hagerstown 16
West Frederick defeated S. Hagerstown in the first round of the Division
II JV Tournament 36-16. The Lady Cadets defense and rebounding kept the
Lady Rebels at bay. The half time score was 22-6.

Division I Varsity: Urbana 34 Middletown 13
The 3rd seed Urbana defeated 6th
seed Middletown in a Division 1 first round game. Urbana opened up an
early 7 point lead in the first quarter but Middletown fought back and
narrowed the gap with tough defense. Going into halftime it was a very
low scoring game with Urbana taking the lead 13-7. Urbana opened up the
second half with 2 quick fast break layups and a stingy team defense
that only allowed Middletown to 4 baskets the entire game as the Hawks
cruised to a 34-13 victory.
Urbana was led in scoring by
Kendall Bresee and Gaelin Hirabayashi with 15 points each. Katie Aquino
and Olivia Madrass scoring 2 pts each.
Middletown was led in
scoring by inside play of Rilee Bradshaw with 7 points and Paige
Tarleton with 3 points and Lauren Keeney with 2 pts.
Division III Varsity: Smithsvurg 16 Ballenger Creek 37
In the first round of Division III's Girl's Varsity Tournament, Smithsburg squared off against Ballenger Creek.
The first quarter Ballenger Creek jumped out to an 8 to 4 lead. In
the second quarter Ballenger Creek added 11 points to Smithsburg's 2
ending the hale with a 19 to 6 Ballenger Creek lead.
The third quarter Ballenger Creek out scored Smithsburg 8 to 0. The
forth quarter Ballenger Creek and Smithsburg both added 10 points but
Ballenger Creek won 37 to 16.
The high scorers for Smithsburg were L. Penwell with 8 points and
T.Kershner with 6 points! Ballenger's high scorers we Kim Hammond with
15 points and Paige Holston with 8 points!
Ballenger Creek moves on to the semi-finals on Saturday against North Hagerstown at 4:30 PM.
Good Luck to the Smithsburg Girls as some move on to play high
school basketball and the others look forward to next season on Varsity

3/7/2012Varsity: Poolesville 20 Walkersville 33
In their opening round game of the 2012 Division 1 Tournament Walkersville claimed a victory over 7th
seed Poolesville. After Walkersville opened up an early lead with
good shooting and strong defense the game was played evenly.
The strong start and finish allowed the Lady Lions to advance into the
semi-finals by a score of 33-20.
The Poolesville Lady Falcons were lead in scoring
by Kristen Darragh with 12 points. Also contributing for the Falcons
were; Casey Harkins 4 points, along with Karyn Comfort and Mollie Bodmer
each with 1 point. Walkersville was led by
McKenzie Mathis who had 14 points and 3 assists. Contributing also for
the Lady Lions was Shelby Williams 10 points, Auriona Johnson 5 points
and 13 rebounds and Megan Dusci 4 points.
Varsity: Boonsboro 49 Brunswick 31
Brunswick
faced Boonsboro in the first round of the Varsity Tournament, and the
Boonsboro Lady Warriors came out with the win, 49 - 31, thanks to good
shooting from all positions and an aggressive first half on defense.
They jumped out to a quick lead of 14 - 8 at the end of the first
quarter. The Lady Warriors continued with another strong second
quarter, going into halftime with a 31 - 13 lead. Brunswick finished
strong in the 4th quarter with 12 points, two of which were 3 pointers
by Phillips.

JV: Oakdale 36, Urbana 17
Smothering defense and numerous fast
break points proved the difference in Oakdale's Division 1 opening
round victory over Urbana. The Eagles pressured their way to a 14-4 lead
after one period. The Hawks were unable to cut the deficit below 10
the rest of the way. Selena Robinson led the way for Oakdale with 12
points. Erin Hoyle added 11 and Chrissy Marshall contributed 6.
Stephanie Miller scored 6 points to lead Urbana. Caitlin Shepherd added
4 points and Jana Hass had 3.
Varsity: North Hagerstown 27 Ballenger Creek 28
North Hagerstown came to Ballenger Creek after beating the Ballenger Creek girls in Hagerstown by 11 on Sunday!
It was Senior night! Coach Raithel watched his entire team go out to be recognized!
When the game started both teams went at it strong in the first
quarter! Tied going into the second quarter 5 to 5! The second quarter
was more of the same both teams going hard and at the half the score was
13 to 13.
The third quarter North Hagerstown kicked it into gear out
hustling the Ballenger Girls and out scoring them 10 to 5! The
fourth quarter the Ballenger girls flipped it and went on a 10 to 4 run
and won the game by 1 point with a 28 to 27 win over North Hagerstown!
The high Scorers for North Hagerstown were Natalie Karlan with
18 points and Margaret Porter with 5 points. For Ballenger Creek the
high scorers were Paige Holston with 12 points and Megan Forte with 8
points!
3/5/2012Division I JV: Windsor Knolls 43 Crestwood 19
In the first round of the tournament Windsor Knolls won a physical
battle against Crestwood. After the first quarter score of 11-6, WKMS
began to pull away with a 23 to 12 half time lead. Crestwood had three
players each with 4 points: Kayla, Olivia, and Cheri, while Katy,
Ariyana, and Alexis each had 2 points, and Elaja had 1. WKMS was led by
Meredith with 14, Ashleigh with 12, Tara with 7, and Maddie with 5.
Division I Varsity: Oakdale 35 TJ 23
The opening game of the playoffs pitted two teams against each other who
had just played two days prior. Similar to the game on Saturday,
Oakdale was able to establish a lead and never relinquished it. Oakdale
was up 22 - 10 at the half and finished with a comfortable 35-23
victory. Oakdale had very balanced scoring attack with almost every
player on the roster contributing at least two points- scorers for
Oakdale were Emma Bowman, Sara Parnes, Kendall Ohm, Emily Scott, Amber
Albrecht, Tierney King, McKenzie O'Rourke, and Rachel Bower. Danielle
Amoriell contributed two defensive rebounds to the cause. TJ was led in
scoring by Brenna Barren with 8 points, with two of them being three
point shots, and Alyssa Handleman also with 8 points from down low.

JV: Ballenger Creek 54 vs. North Hagerstown 30
North
Hagerstown came into this game looking to upset the undefeated
Ballenger Creek Lady Bulldogs. Unfortunately for them, this was not to
happen. Although eight of North Hagerstown's players scored, it was not
enough to pull off the win.
Micalea
Fleetwood and Elysia Pinkard each had nine points for North Hagerstown.
Arielle Jean-Jacques had seven points, Madison Foltz and Sarah
Amalfitano each had two points and Maggie Keller scored the remaining
Hagerstown point.
Ballenger
Creek was lead in scoring by Sydney Clayton, who had eighteen
points--her season high! Augusta Kamara had thirteen points, Ruth Evans
had eleven points, Brittany Clinedinst scored five points, Marley
Tierney put in four points, and Maddie Mandich finished the game with
three points. This also left the Lady Bulldogs undefeated in their
regular season, with a record of 17 - 0! Congratulations to the Lady

Varsity: Hubs 34 Ballenger Creek 23
The game began with a close match up
with the first quarter score 9 to 5 Hubs. Switching zone and man to man
match up allowed the Hubs to increase the lead to 19 to 10. Behind
excellent 3 point shooting by Ballenger Creek the game got as close as 3
points in the 2nd half. The Jr. Hubs were able to hold off the charge
by Ballenger Creek using a strong man to man defense and strong shooting
from several players. The points leaders for the teams were: Jr. Hubs
Sophia Abeles 8, Kirsten Searcy 8, Nat Karlen 6, Claire Murray 4 Anna
Scheck 4, and Margaret Porter and Aliayah Jackson 2. Ballenger Creek was
led but Kimmy Hammond 10 and Paige Holston 7.

have asked Daphnie to check our record. I think they have it as 8-1
after the win today but I believe it should be 9-1. We play a make up
game against Ballenger Creek Wednesday @ 7 for our final regular season
game.
JV: Springfield 34 Catoctin 13
Both teams started slow as each team's defense was solid in the
early going. Springfield held a slim 8-4 lead after one quarter led by
Jazmine Yost's 4 points. It was more of the same in the 2nd quarter as
both team's struggled to score with Springfield holding a 14-6 lead at
the half. Springfield came out strong to start the 2nd half scoring 12
points in the 3rd quarter as Lexie Robinson, Jazmine Yost, Kaitlin
Murphy, and Cassie Lavin all scored early in the 3rd. Eryn McVicker's
defense and passing led the run. Springfield extended their lead to 14
points after 3 quarters at 26-12. Springfield continued to roll in the
4th quarter as Yost scored another 6 points giving Springfield the 34-13
victory. Both teams played very hard and aggressive, and Catoctin
missed on several opportunities from the foul line that could have made
the game much closer. Eryn McVicker had a solid floor game for
Springfield with 6 assists and 3 steals leading Springfield's strong

Catoctin controlled the action early by hustling and playing
sound defense. They were able to build a five point halftime lead of
18-13. Springfield made a run early in the 3rd quarter cutting the lead
to 1, but Catoctin responded with a run of their own pushing the lead to
7 points at the end of the 3rd quarter. Springfield attempted one last
push in the final quarter but Catoctin finished strong to post the
victory. Catoctin was led in scoring by Morgan Tracy with 10 points
followed by Emily Kuykendall with 9 points, and Meghan Jenkins with 8
points. Springfield's leading scorer was Olivia Coleman with 12 points
followed by Samantha Raidt with 6 points.
JV: MSD 38 St. John’s 17
MSD
defeated St. John’s 38-17. The JV Lady Orioles pressure defense kept
the JV Lady Spartans at court for the duration of the game. Also, JV
Lady Orioles made a lot of points from fast break. The top scorer for
the Lady Spartans was Brooke Taylor with six points and followed by
Paula Hieshorn with four points, Sarah Case with two points, Lisa
Kneebone with two points, and Brittany Fowler with two points.
The top scorer for Lady Orioles Eve Wood-Jacobowitz led the way with sixteen points and followed by
Karita Lewis with eleven points, Freya Seremeth with five points, Kaela
Luttrell with two points, Katilyn Weeks with two points, and Anna
Wood-Jacobowitz with two points.
Varsity: Boonsboro 21 Brunswick 19
In
a defensive-minded and low-scoring game, the Lady Warriors pulled out a
close victory over Brunswick, 21 - 19. Brunwick jumped out to a quick
lead in the first quarter 7 - 6, all points made by Baker for
Brunswick. Both the second and third quarters saw only 2 and 3 points
from each team, with a tie score at 11 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Both teams were able to get some baskets to drop in the 4th quarter,
with final score of 21 - 19. Top scorer for Brunswick: Baker 11

MSD
defeated Crestwood 22-15. The JV Lady Orioles outrun the JV Lady
Cavalier with 10 point in first quarter. In second half, Crestwood’s
defense was very stubborn and aggressive. They managed us scoreless in
third quarter. The JV Lady Orioles made more points in fourth quarter
from fast break. The top scorer for the JV lady Orioles
Eve Wood-Jacobowitz led the way with 14 points. The top scorer for JV
Lady Cavalier was Elaija Demeza with 6 points, and followed by Kayla
Griffith with 5 points.
JV: Monocacy 41 - Brunswick 23
Monocacy got balanced scoring and tough defense in defeating
Brunswick 41-23.The winners got a game high 13 points from Taylor
Stafford,and 10 points each from Jessie Hoult and Jessie Titus.Brunswick
got five points from Olivia Heaton.
Varsity: Monocacy 50 - Brunswick 30
In a game that was closer than the score shows,Monocacy defeated
Brunswick 50-30.Both teams shot well in the first half with Monocacy
holding a nine point lead.The winners got 12 points from Mollie
McSweeney,10 points from Makenna McSweeney,nine points from Charlotte
Kowalk,eight points from Tanaisia Jow,and seven points from Tyrae
Byrd.Brunswick got a nice overall game from Alexis Baker who got 11
points.Alicia Coats added seven points.
JV: Windsor Knolls 38 Walkersville 26
Windsor
Knolls came into Urbana H.S. looking to complete their regular season
with a perfect 16-0 record but had to face a very well coached and tough
Walkersville team. Windsor Knolls opened with a bang, winning the
first quarter, 14-3. Walkersville was not going to allow that to
continue with a strong 2nd quarter, cutting the deficit to 22-16 at the
half. The second half was very evenly played with Windsor Knolls
outscoring Walkersville 16-10, w/ a final of WK 38 Walk. 26, giving
Windsor Knolls the final win of the regular season. Walkersville was
lead in scoring by Carlie H. 11, Maddie H. 8, Taylor S. 4 and Taylor D.
3. Windsor Knolls had very balanced scoring, leading with Ashleigh B.
14, Tara G. 8, Caroline W. 6, Sam C, Kara P., Maddie F. all with 2 ea.,
Meredith 1 and Brianna D. with Windsor Knolls only 3 pointer of the
season.
Varsity: Windsor Knolls 49 Walkersville 47
Walkersville came
to Urbana needing a win to finish in a tie for first place, but Windsor
Knolls played the spoiler in an exciting overtime win. In a game where
the refs called every foul imaginable and 2 of Windsor Knolls starters
fouled out in the 3rd quarter, WKMS dug deep and prevailed for the hard
fought victory. McKenzie Mathis had 17 and MacKenzie White had 15 for
Walkersville. Windsor Knolls got an all around great game from
Christine McKee with 14. Madeline Cederdahl put the team on her back
and pushed them to the overtime victory, 11 points. Hannah Mills played
a strong game as well and added 8 points and great rebounding.

The Walkersville Lady
Lions defeated visiting Smithsburg 34-21 on Thursday evening. The Lions
were led by Maddie Hommey and Carlie Hopkins each with 9 points. Also
scoring for the lions were: Taylor Stair with 7,
Claire Kothchenreuther with 4, Taylor Diggs with 3, and Alexa Daye with
2. For Smithsburg Brett Grove had 6, Kenzie Stout and Hailey Bactell
each had 4, Katherine Thorn had 3, and Faith Bruchey and Megan Black
each had 2.
Varsity: Walkersville 53 Smithsburg 7
Walkersville
was host to Smithsburg winning 53 to 7 Thursday evening. Smithsburg was
lead by Taryn Kershner with 5 points and Megan Roberts with 2 points.
The Lions were led by McKenzie Mathis
16 points and 4 assists. Emma Crouch 11 points, 3 steals and 2 assists.
Megan Dusci 6 points, Anastasia Miller and Aurianna Johnson 5 points
and 7 rebounds. Shelby Williams 5 rebounds and 2 points, MacKenzie White
4 points, 3 steals and 3 assists. Becca Koontz
4 points while Kendra McAbee had 4 rebounds for the Lions.
2/27/2012JV: South Hagerstown 25, Oakdale 46
In South's last game of the regular season, the Lady Rebels came out playing tough defense and shooting the ball well. The Lady Rebels were able to keep the score close through the first and second quarters. Oakdale started the third quarter on fire. Oakdale scored 22 points in the third quarter and held the Lady Rebels to 0 points. The Lady Rebels fought back and scored 12 points in the fourth quarter but the lead that Oakdale took in the third quarter was too much to overcome. The high scorer for Oakdale was Selena Robinson with 11 points. Camille Gipson and Emily Woodard both chipped in with 10 points each. For South, Ebony Earl was the high scorer with 7 points. Emily Talbert, Kaylyn Wolfe, and Sirri Akaya each scored 4 points.
Varsity: South Hagerstown 31, Oakdale 35
On monday Oakdale travelled out to Hagersotwn to face the South Rebels. Oakdale got started off rather quickly and scored the first couple of points to start things off. South was able to remain within striking distance scoring 7 in the first period to Oakdales 12. In the second period South countered and was able to bring the score to within 1 point. They went into the half 17-18. South continued to chip away in the third tying the score at 24 to end the 3rd. Finally mid way through the 4th South was able to take their first lead. However in the final 1:30 Oakdale was able to score a bucket to take a 1 point lead at 32-31. South would then turn the ball over, and were forced to foul in an attempt to get the ball back. Oakdale made both free throws giving them a 3 point lead. South got a couple looks at some three's but nothing would land. Oakdale was able to sink 1 more free throw, ending the game 35-31. Leading scoreres for Oakdale were Emma Bowman with 10 and Kendall Ohm with 8. South was Lindsey Bedregal with 14, and Ayanna Small with 9.
2/26/2012 Varsity: Brunswick 29 Thomas Johnson 36
Brunswick hosted TJ Sunday afternoon in what turned out
to be a very exciting game.
The first quarter ended with TJ leading 8-6. Brunswick
then has a long scoring drought and TJ took advantage by taking a 17-8 lead
into halftime. Down by 10 after three quarters Brunswick started to heat up by
pulling to within one point late in the fourth, but TJ regained their composure
to pull out the 36-29 victory.
JV:
Catoctin 30; Saint John's 16
The Vikings came back strong against their second
meeting with the Catoctin Cougars. Despite their incredible team effort,
they came up short with the Cougars taking the win 30-16. Brooke Taylor (#33)
lead the Vikings with six (6) points. Paula Hirshorm (#12) followed with
four (4) points. Sarah Case (#25) and Megan Carlson (#55) dominated the boards
and each contributed three (3) points.
Alexis Smith (#22) lead the Cougars with 11 points.
Brietta Latham (#30) followed with five (5) points. Camyrn
Skowronski (#23) and Emily Keller (#32) contributed four (4) points each.
Carrie Reaver (#13) had three (3) points, Alexi Baumgardner (#12) had two
(2) points and Courtney Orndorff (#15) had one (1) point.

The St. John's Lady Vikings hosted the Catoctin Cougars on Sunday
evening. It was a very competitive game as both teams played
tough. The first half featured stingy defensive play from both squads as
the game was tied at halftime. However, The Lady Cougars came out of the
break with a 15-2 run, which was fueled by the outstanding play of Taylor Crum,
who scored 9 points in the quarter. The Lady Vikings were able to fight
back and get back in the game with a 10-2 run of their own in the
fourth quarter. In the end, Catoctin won by a score of 43-34. They
had very balanced scoring as 9 different players had entries in the
scorebook. Catoctin was led in scoring by Taylor Crum with 12
points, Hannah Gray had 10 points and Morgan Tracy with 6
points. St John's was led by Tara Butler, who knocked down two 3
pointers and finished with 12 points. Julie Brisbane had 7 points and did
an excellent job of running the point guard position for The Lady Vikings.
Additionally, St John's got another great effort from Maddie Abel who had 4
points and the trio of Alexis Ogren, Breanna Riley and Jenna Hendi did and
excellent job at rebounding on both ends of the court.

Holston had fourteen while teammate Megan Forte contributed ten for
Ballenger Creek. Taryn Kershner led the Lady Leopards with twelve
points.JV: Thomas Johnson 34 - Brunswick 22
A very athletic TJ squad came out firing and jumped out to a 17-5 lead
mid-way through the second quarter on the strength of Chante Weedon's 9
points. The Lady Roaders finally woke up and scored 6 straight to cut
the lead to 17-11 heading into the locker room. TJ again started fast,
dominating the glass and scoring the first 6 points coming out of the
break. Brunswick was able to cut the deficit to single digits twice
before the Lady Patriots scored the final 3 points to seal the 34-22
victory. The versatile Weedon led TJ with 15 points, including two
triples. Point guard Brianna Forbes added 8. Brunswick had a balanced
scoring attack and 9 players scored, led by Isabel Leon's 4.

JV: Middletown Windsor Knolls
Varsity: Middletown 34 vs Windsor Knolls 26 Varsity girls
The Lady Knights came ready to play, their full
court pressure and outside shooting helped them get the lead. Peyton
Weaver for Middletown was all over the court rebounding and shooting,
she led the knights with 10 points. Maddy Cederdahl
is the engine for Windsor Knolls she pushes the ball and drives the
lane. Maddy led Windsor knolls with 11 points, most coming from the
free throw line due to her drives in the lane. Middletown had a well
balanced score sheet, Paige Tarleton added 6 points
for the knights. Regan Lohr added 5 points for Windsor Knolls.

JV: Ballenger Creek 38 vs. Thomas Johnson 26
Thomas
Johnson came in as the frontrunner, being the Division I team playing
Division III Ballenger Creek, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled off the win.
Ballenger got into some foul trouble with two players fouling out, but
Thomas Johnson made only 35% of their foul shots, giving Ballenger some
breathing room.
Thomas Johnson was lead in scoring by Chante
Weedon, who scored seventeen of their twenty-six points. Jana Faucett,
Amber Underwood, Madison Ondo and Brianna Forbes each had two points and
Kalah Turner added the final point.
Sydney
Clayton had thirteen points for Ballenger Creek, followed by Augusta
Kamara with ten points, Ruth Evans with six points, Marley Tierney with
three points, Makenzie Holston, Kendall Jones and Aniyah Brooks, each
with two points. JV: MSD 27 Brunswick 29
Brunswick was trailing the MSD most of the game but got back to back
triple shots from Makenzie Schnur and Erica Craemer for an exciting,
come from behind 29-27 win. MSD lead 14-9 early in the second
half.Olivia Heaton kept Brunswick in the game with her 5 3rd quarter
points. With 4 minutes left, MSD led 25-23. Then Schnur nailed her
triple to put the Railroaders ahead. In Brunswick's next possession,
Craemer drained another triple for the winning points.
Heaton, Schnur and Craemer each scored 7 points. Brittany Walker
added 3 points. Lauren Hafner and Abby Cole contributed 2 points each
and Wynanne Walters, 1. The JV Lady Orioles Karita Lewis led the way for
MSD with 14 points, followed by Eve Wood-Jacobowitz with 6 points.

Both teams started slowly as Springfield held an 8-2 lead after the
first quarter. Springfield's pressure defense picked up in the 2nd
quarter with seven players scoring extending the lead to 22-2 at the
half. Linganore continued to play hard scoring 8 points in the 3rd
quarter, while Springfield's balanced attack kept them at bay.
Springfield had 10 girls score in the game led by Jazmine Yost's 10
points. Scorers for Linganore: Ambush 4 pts, Eddins 2 pts, Specht 6
pts. Scorers for Springfield: Robinson 7 pts, Murphy 6 pts, McVicker 5
pts, Moser 4 pts, Renn 2 pts, Yost 10 pts, Zisa 2 pts, Lavin 7 pts,
Fluharty 2 pts, and Riley 4 pts.
Varsity: Springfield 37 Linganore 21
Springfield
came out aggressive in the 1st quarter. Sydney Hockensmith and Olivia
Coleman each scored 4 points to give Springfield a 12-4 lead. Defense
for both teams controlled the second quarter as Springfield managed to
add to its lead at the half with the score 18-8. Linganore connected on 6
of 8 free throws in the 3rd quarter to draw close but baskets by Megan
Budnicki and Kate Wade pushed the Springfield lead back to 9 points
heading to the 4th quarter. Linganore made one final run behind baskets
from Libby Schiller and Jacqueline Mitchell, however Springfield was
able to put the game away at the foul line as Kate Wade made 9 of 10
free throws in the last two minutes. Springfield was lead by Wade with
12 points, Coleman with 11 pts, and Hockensmith with 6 pts. Linganore
was led by Schiller with 10 pts and Mitchell with 5 pts.
Varsity: West Frederick 37 South Hagerstown 23
West Frederick defeated S. Hagerstown 37 - 23. Lead scorers for South
were Lindsey Bedregal with 14, followed by Olivia Griffin with 5. W
Frederick was led by Darlene King with 18 followed by Dajah Gee with10.
JV: Crestwood Boonsboro
Varsity: Crestwood 38 – Boonsboro 33
Crestwood
traveled to Boonsboro on Saturday and jumped out to a 13 – 9 first
quarter lead behind great shooting from A. Mwando & A. Hawkins.
Boonsboro settled down during the second quarter to tie the score at the
half 17 – 17. The 3rd quarter again belonged to Crestwood taking a 3 point lead into the 4th.
With Boonsboro down 2 in the final 30 seconds a great 3 point play by
Crestwood sealed the game. Crestwood shot the ball well all game
including 12 of 16 from the line. Crestwood was lead by A. Mwando with
10, A. Hawkins with 9 and A. Penn with 8. Boonsboro was lead by A.
Sikes with 10 and K. Ridenour and A. Oakes with 6.
JV: West Frederick 49 South Hagerstown 11
West Frederick defeated S. Hagerstown 49-11. The JV Lady Cadets pressure
defense kept the JV Lady Rebels at bay for the duration of the game.
Top scorer for the Lady Rebels was Katlin Wolfe with ten points. The
Lady Cadets Monet Wade led the way with 11 points, followed by Chandler
Thomas with 11, Gabby Fratantuono with 10 and Kyrsten Linthicum with 10.
Varsity: West Frederick South Hagerstown
JV: Oakdale 33 Windsor Knolls 35
EXCITING!!!!!!! Oakdale came in determined to hand WKMS their first
loss. After a very tough and close 1st quarter, Windsor Knolls was able
to go into halftime with a 15-9 lead. Windsor Knolls was able to
maintain the lead until the 4th quarter when a very determined Oakdale
team closed the gap with a 31-31 tie at the end of the 4th quarter. The
very fast tempo game continued on into the overtime period with Windsor
Knolls scoring 1st but Oakdale quickly answered with a basket
themselves. With less then a minute left in the game Windsor Knolls,
Maddie France was the difference in the game with a half court steal and
making her layup while being fouled. With 10 seconds left after the
missed free throw, Oakdale had just run out of time. Oakdale had great
balance in their scoring, and played great team defense. Windsor Knolls
35 Oakdale 33. WKMS extends their record to 14-0, and clinches the
1st seed into the tournament.

pretty much had control of this game throughout, but Windsor Knolls made
a run late and cut the lead to 1 with under a minute to play.
Oakdale's leader Emma Bowman hit a pair of crucial foul shots at the end
to put it away. She finished with a game high 15 points. Windsor
Knolsl was led by a great shooting night from Kaylee Woodward with 10
points. Regan Lohr had an outstanding defensive night and added 8
points on the offensive side.
JV: Catoctin 43 North Hagerstown 6
Suffocating! Tenacious! Smothering! That is what the JV Lady
Cougars defense was like on Saturday night when they defeated the North
Hagerstown Lady Hubs 43-6. The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 10-1 lead
after one quarter and never looked back. Catoctin was led by Michaela
Persinger's fantastic all around game as she scored 14 points, pulled
down 8 rebounds and had 6 steals. Emilly Keller chipped in with 8
points, Alexis Smith had 6 points, Courtney Orndorff, Camryn Skowronski
and Brietta Latham all had 4 points and Carrie Reaver rounding out the
scoring with 3. Alyssa Pinkard scored all 6 points for the Lady Hubs.
The Lady Cougars are now 11-5 on the season and will be on the road for
their final 2 regular season games.
Varsity: Catoctin 40 North Hagerstown 22
It was a big game Saturday night at Thurmont Middle as Catoctin hosted N.
Hagerstown with first place in the division at stake. After an even first
quarter the lady cougars took control of the game with tenacious team defense
led by Taylor Crum and took a ten point lead to the half. Catoctin continued to
control the game in the second half to gain the victory 40-22 in the lady
cougars best effort of the season in front of a packed gym! Meghan Jenkins
led the cougars with eleven points and had a tremendous overall game, the Hubs
fought hard and were led by A. Scheck with eight. Great team win for the Lady
Cougars!
2/23/2012Thursday evening the Walkersville Lady Lions “Played for the Cure” in the 3rd
Annual Breast
Cancer Awareness Game. Prior to the Varsity contest those which helped
us fill the gym heard Breast Cancer facts and how everyone in
attendance was most likely effected in some way. On this night those in
attendance who are survivors were recognized by each
player with the presentation of a pink rose. Money collected and a
portion of gate donations will be given for cancer research. Thanks to
everyone that made donations and attended this great event.
JV: West Frederick 17 Walkersville

the JV contest the Lady Lions used an aggressive defense to defeat
visiting West Frederick 44-17 to improve to 12-3. The Lions were consist
the
entire game and handled the 2nd half pressure of the Lady
Cadets to secure the victory. The Lady Lions were led by Carlie Hopkins
with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Also contributing for the Lions were
Taylor Diggs with 9 points, Taylor Stair with
7 points, Maddie Hommey with 6 points, Olivia Johnson with 4
points,Regan Farr and Keren Ott each with 2. For West Frederick Delaney
Irwin, Gabby Frutantuono, and Krysten Linticum each had 4 points. Also
for West Frederick Julie Slaton, Samantha Nelson each
had 2 points and Chandley Thomas had 1 point.

Middle School had the gym packed for the "Pink Out" game vs. West
Frederick. The Lady Lions prevailed as they battled against a tough West
Frederick team, winning
by the score of 47 to 42. At the halftime the score was close with
Walkersville leading 21 – 15. West Frederick had the advantage on the
boards all night and gave the Lady Lions a hard time. West Frederick
pulled within 4 points with 1:33 remaining in the
game but the Lady Lions were able to hang on for the win. W. Frederick
was lead in scoring by Darlene King 15 points, Dajeh Gee 11 points,
Aniss Grant 9 points, Randi Dollar 5 points and Erykah Walimsley with 1
point. The Lady Lions were led by McKenzie Mathis
with 15 points, 4 steals, 3 block shots and 3 assists. Emma Crouch
finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists. MacKenzie
White chipped in with 6 points, 3 steals, and 4 assists. Shelby Williams
had 7 points, Kendra McAbee 4 points and 4 rebounds,
Megan Dusci 4 points, Anastasia Miller 2 points for the Lions.

What
an exciting game! In 2.8 seconds, Eve Wood-Jacobowitz made game-winning

Poolesville's JV Girls opened up a close game in the third quarter by
holding Urbana's JV's scoreless in a President's Day 29-19 win. Delaney Cecco
led Poolesville seven points followed by Madi Peyton with six, Hailey Khalil
with four and Siann Riggs with three. Urbana picked up scoring from Caitlin
Shepherd and Alex Winokur with four each. Cameron Mackintosh also hit for three
as she converted three-of-four from the free throw line.

Urbana's Varsity Girls, with coaches from schools all over gazing onward
from the packed bleachers at Poolesville High School, apllied pressure from the
tip-off and cruised to a 42-22 victory over the listless Falcons. Urbana's "big
three" of dedicated hoopsters did not disappoint the crowd of interested
onlookers ar Gaelin Hirabayashi (15 points), Kendall Bresee (11 points) and
Katie Aquino (eight points) out-ran, out-scored, and out-rebounded the home
team. Poolesville picked up an honest effort from Casey Harkins---she led the
Falcons with seven points. Breanne Hall pitched in six points for
Poolesville.

MSD’s leading scorer was Eve Wood-Jacobowitz with 17 points. Brooke

Springfield improved it's record to 16-0 by starting fast
against South Hagerstown. Kaitlin Murphy led all scorers in the quarter
with 6pts, while Jazmine Yost and Eryn McVicker each contributed 4pts as
Springfield led 17-1 after the first quarter. Springfield added 13
points in the 2nd quarter and extended their lead at the half. South
Hagerstown continued to play hard in the 2nd half, as Sirri Akaya scored

In a game that was close from beginning to end, Springfield battled
their way to a 28-23 victory over South. The first half saw both teams
hold slim leads but neither could put together a run to take control of
the game. The first half ended with the score tied at 13. The defensive
battle continued into the second half, but Springfield was able to open
up a 5 point lead late in the 3rd quarter behind free throws from Sydney
Hockensmith, Megan Budnicki, and Kate Wade. Jasmine Ballard for South
was fouled at the buzzer and knocked down a free throw to cut the
Springfield lead to 21-17 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Kate Wade came
up big for Springfield in the 4th quarter scoring 7 of her game high 11
points including two free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining to seal the
victory. Leading scorers for South were Loudin with a team high 7 points
followed by Bedregal with 6 points. Springfield was led by Wade with 11
points followed by Olivia Coleman with 8 points. Coleman also had a
team high 12 rebounds.

The Thomas Johnson's JV Girls, paced by Chante Weedon's game-high 18 points,
opened up a 12-point lead to start the fourth quarter against Poolesville. The
Falcons rallied to outscore TJ in the final period 13-3 but it wasn't enough as
the visitors held on to beat Falcons by a final score of 26-24. In addition to
Weedon's heroics, Brittany Morris pitched in four points for TJ. Delaney Cecco
led Poolesville with nine points followed by Hailey Khalil with six and Samme
Mullikin and Madi Peyton with four each.

Poolesville's Varsity Girls made the most of their opportunities from the
charity stripe as they shot a cool 18-for-25 from the free throw line to beat
Thomas Johnson's Varsity Girls by a final score of 34-27. With both teams
pressuring the ball, the free throw line was a busy place with Poolesville
hitting theirs in the fourth quarter to win. The Falcons were paced by Casey
Harkins with 12, Karyn Comfort with eight, and Breanne Hall with six. Thomas
Johnson picked up nine points from Hannah Clingan, seven from Raeshean Simmons
and four each from Brenna Baran and Abbie Stitley.
JV: West Frederick 31 - Brunswick 24
Second place West Frederick started well and charged out to a 16-5 lead
before Brunswick scored 4 straight points to cut the deficit to 16-9 at
the half. Both teams tightened their defenses coming out of the break
and each team scored only 5 points in the 3rd period. The Roaders made
things exciting in the 4th by scoring the first 6 points to cut the lead
to 1, but the Cadets hit 2 long jump shots and several clutch freet
throws down the stretch to hold on for the 31-24 victory. West Frederick
was led by point guard Kyrsten Lihthicum's 10 points while Gabby
Fratantuono had 7. Isabel Leon led the Roaders with 7 points and
Makenzie Scnhur chipped in 6.
JV: Middletown 16 Walkersville 30
A
hard fought game was played on Sunday by the Knights and the Lions.
Both teams came out with aggressive defense making it difficult to make
easy baskets closing the first quarter 4(M)-8(W). Walkersville continued
the full court pressure making it hard for Middletown to get it across
half court causing several turnovers, closing the half 6-15. In the
second half Middletown showed great determination and strong defense but
it was not enough to win the game, final score 16-30. Lead scorer for
Middletown was Helen Holt with 8pts 6 rebounds and 7 blocks, Hannah
Sledzik 3pts, Erin O'Connor and Haven Brandenburg with 2pts each and
Kirsten Beckner 1pt. Stottlemyer, Brant, Crutchfield, Ottenritter and
Arney contributed to the intense defense. Walkersville high scorer was
Diggs with 13pts, Hommey with a bucket and two 3 pointers, Kotchenruther

After a tight first quarter the WKMS JV girls were able to pull away to a 32-4 victory.
JV: St. John's 21 Catoctin 39
Catoctin's Lady Cougars hosted St. John's Vikings for a Sunday
afternoon contest. The Lady Cougars were not gracious hosts as
they came out on fire and jumped on the Vikings in route to a 17-3 lead
after one quarter. They continued to play well in the 2nd quarter and
went into the half leading 25-5. St. John's came out strong in the 3rd
quarter and won that quarter 12-8. The fourth quarter was pretty even
as the Lady Cougars closed out a 39-21 victory. Six players scored for
Catoctin. Carrie Reaver led the way with 13 points, Alexis Smith and
Michaela Persinger each scored 8 points. Emily Keller had 6 points and
Alexi Baumgardner and Camryn Skowronski each had 2. Courtney Orndorff
led the defense with 9 steals and Brietta Latham had 5 assists. St.
John's was led by Sarah Case with 8 points and Lisa Kneebone had 6
points (2 three pointers). Brianna Fowler had 3 points, Satreen Hendi
and Meghan Carlson had 2 points each.
Catoctin is now 10-5 on the season and hosts North Hagerstown in its next game.

St. Johns traveled to Thurmont for a Sunday afternoon match-up against the lady
cougars. After a slow first quarter the lady cougars picked up the pace and
were able to defeat a scrappy St. Johns team 32-9. It was a good team win for
Catoctin who were led in scoring by Emily Kuykendall with eight and had
a great defensive effort from the whole team. Maddie Abel led St. Johns with
five followed by Julie Brisbane with two and Alexis Ogren chipped in two
and was very effective on the boards.

Boonsboro hosted Springfield for their second game of the season, and the Lady Warriors pulled out a 30 - 25 win with a strong 4th quarter. Both teams came out equally matched, but the Lady Warriors stumbled in the 2nd
quarter scoring only 2 pts while Springfield played their steady game,
giving Springfield a halftime lead of 14 – 9. The third quarter was an
even match, but the Boonsboro defense kept Springfield to only 2 pts in
the 4th quarter, ending the game with a score of 30 – 25.

confident and ready to play and it showed from the opening tip-off.

Kendall Bresee had thirteen points, while Carryn Jurgens had five
points. Jessaca Afable, Emma Watt, and Katie Aquino each had four
points. Olivia Madras and Kelly McCarthy both had two points. For
Crestwood, the leading scorer was Cheyanne Jackson with nine points.
Ayanna Hawkins had three points. Karla Villacis and Ali Penn both had
two points and Kara Compozano had one point.

In a tough defensive battle Monocacy was able to pull away in the
second half and defeat West Frederick 30-24.The winners had to hold off a
late 4th quarter rally by West Frederick.Monocacy got seven points each
from Jessie Titus,Jessie Hoult,and Taylor Stafford.West Frederick got a
game high 11 points from Krystin Linthicum.

In a packed gym at Whittier, West Frederick played a fantastic game
and defeated Monocacy 38-35,giving them their first loss of the
season.Monocacy had a one point lead after the first half but a 12-6
third quarter gave West Frederick the lead.Up by seven with two minutes
to go,Monocacy closed the gap to one point but two free throws by Aniss
Grant with 0.5 on the clock sealed the win.
The winners got another great game out of Dajah Gee with 14
points,including two three pointers,with Aniss Grant adding 10
points,and Randi Dollar with nine points.Monocacy got 14 points from
Tyrae Byrd,with Mollie McSweeney adding 14 points,including two three
pointers.
JV: Middletown 26 Thomas Johnson 24
In a game then went down the final buzzer the Knights pulled out a
thrilling 2 point win over the Patriots. TJ jumped out to a quick 8-2
lead but the Knights took over from there scoring the next 18 points of
the game to lead by 12 late in the 3rd quarter. The Patriots responded
with a 14-0 run of their own to take the lead at 22-20 late in the game.
But Middletown got two key hoops from Helen Holt in the final minute,
the last with 17 seconds remaining and played great defense to close out
the game with a win. Holt lead the Kinights with 12 and Hannah Sledzik
added 10. Chante Weedon lead the way for TJ with 12.

The
Walkersville JV Lady Lions defeated visiting Poolesville 37-16 Thursday
evening to improve their record to 10-3. The Lions had nine players

in the game. They were lead by Carlie Hopkins and Maddie Hommey each
with 9 points. Other scorers for the lions were Hannah Rice and Regan
Farr with 1 point each, Keren Ott, Alexa Daye, and Olivia Johnson each
had 2 points, Claire Kothchenreuther had 5 points,
Taylor Stair contributed 6 points. Poolesville was lead by Hailey Khahl
with 8 points, Delaney Cecco and Siann Riggs each had 3 points, Madi
Payton had 2 points.

Walkersville
was host to Poolesville where the Lions won 43-26. The Lions came out
aggressive and at the end of the first quarter it was 21 - 4.
Poolesville had played nice
defense in the second to pull closer going into halftime where the
score was Lions 24 Poolesville 8. Poolesville was lead in scoring by 3
players with 5 each Casey Harkins, Lauren Lightcap and Kristen Darragh.
Karyn Comfort had 4, Mollie Bodmer 3, Allison
Nevius 2, Christina Hilton and Jami D'amelio each had 1 point. The
Lions were led by McKenzie Mathis with 13 points, 4 assists, and 2
steals. Megan Dusci chipped in with 7 points, MacKenzie White added 6
points, 5 steals and 2 assists, Emma Crouch scored
5, Ana Taylor and Becca Koontz 4 points, Ariona Johnson had 2 points, 3
blocked shots and 6 rebounds, Shelby Williams 2 points, and Kendra
McAbee pulled down 7 rebounds on the night.

North came out strong and took a 10 point lead. By half time the
lancers cut it to one. The second half went back and forth until the
last two minutes of the game when the lancers took the lead and where
able to hold on to it. North Hagerstown leaders in scoring where Anna
Scheck with 8 pts and Natalie Karlen, Kirsten Searcy both adding 5pts
each. The Lancers leading scores were Elizabeth Schiller and Karly
Johnson both with 9 points each Tanner Ridgely add 6 points to lead the
Lancers to victory.

JV: South Hagerstown 21 Brunswick 34
The Lady Rebels started the game playing great defense and shooting the ball well. At half-time South Hagerstown was leading 13 to 8. Brunswick tightened up their defense in the third quarter and held the Lady Rebels to only 2 points. In the fourth quarter Brunswick pulled ahead by passing the ball well and getting open looks for their shots. Makenzie Sohnve was the high scorer for Brunwick. Erica Craemer, Olivia Heaton, and Brittany Walker each contributed 6 points for Brunswick. Sidney Kelly was the high scorer for South Hagerstown with10 points.
Varsity: South Hagerstown 45 Brunswick 42
This game started off really tight with both sides playing good defense. The first quarter ended 8-8. In the second period the Rebels were able to create some seperation. They went on to score 18 but the railroaders were able to add 10 of their own to stay within striking distance. The score at half was 26-18. The third period was once again evenly matched with the Rebels getting 8 nd Brunswick 7. However in the 4th Brunswick was able to go on a good run drawing many key fouls and making 8 of their 11 free throws. They were able to score 17 in the final frame but it would not be enough to catch up to the lead that the Rebels had created. Brunswick was led in scoring by Baker with 16 and Brodish with 14. For the Rebels Lindsey Bedregal led scoring with 20, Jasmine Ballard 11, and Ayanna Small 9.

Urbana was led in scoring by Stephanie Miller with 10 points. Jana Haas had 7 points. Cameron Mackintosh had 4 points. Whitney Robertson and Sophia Payton each had 2 points.
Crestwood scoring was led by Kemi Adeyemi, Kayla Griffith and India Keene with 4 points each. Cheri O’Brien had 2 points. Alexis Toliver and Katy Valladares each a 1 point.

In a close game that came down to the last shoot. South Hagerstown
Lindsey Bedregal hit the game winning 3 pointer with no time left on the
clock to win.The fourth quarter belonged to Lindsey
Bedregal she score 17 pts in the fourth quarter alone and ended the game
with a game high 21pts. Hannl Loudin chipped in with 9pts for South
Hagerstown. The Lancers where led by Jacqueline Mitchell with 17pts and
Tanner Ridgley with 5pts.

In a game much
closer than the score would indicate Springfield ran it's record to
14-0. Monocacy came out on fire despite not having one of its best
players in Taylor Stafford. Both teams came out playing extremely hard
and aggressive as the score was tied after one quarter 11-11. The second
quarter was more of the same as neither team could stop the other.
Monocacy took a four point lead late in the quarter behind 8 points from
each Magaha and Titus. Springfield kept fighting back, and went on an
8-0 run to end the half making the score Springfield 27-23. Springfield
was sparked in the first half by Jazmine Yost's 7 points, while Eryn
McVicker and Kaitlin Murphy each added 4 pts. Springfield came out
determined in the second half and outscored Monocacy 16-2 in the 3rd
quarter. Jazmine Yost had 10 pts in the quarter to lead the offensive
attack. Springfield continued to play solid defense in the 4th quarter
limiting Monocacy to one made free throw, while adding 8 points in that
final quarter to make the final 51-26. Scorers for Monocacy: Hoult 2

Creek continued their winning streak with a strong start by Augusta
Kamark hitting outside shots for a 13-6 lead after the 1st
quarter. The second quarter Urbana was able to hold the lead from
extending by only 1 with a half time score of 18-10. But the second
half was all Ballenger Creek outscoring Urbana leading to a final score
of 43-18. The Games leading scorer was Ballenger Creek’s Augusta Kamark
with 18 points followed by Marley Tierney with 7 and Sydney Clayton

Poolesville's Varsity Girls opened up an eight point halftime lead over
visiting North Hagerstown and then hung on for a 32-29 win. North closed the
Poolesville to just two in the third before the Falcon's "D" rose to the
challenge to shut the game down. Casey Harkins led Poolesville with 11 points.
Mollie Bodmer had nine and Jami D'Amelio and Breanne Hall had three each for the
victors. Natalie Karlen was almost unstoppable for North---she finished with 16
points. Sophie Abeles and Anna Scheck chipped in four and three points
respectively for the visitors.

The undefeated WKMS Wolverines hosted the TJ Patriots in a game that
started off as a tight battle. The Patriots came out ready to play.
The first quarter ended with the Wolverines leading 16 to 7. The
Patriot's were able to put some pressure on the Wolverine's in the third
quarter when Chante scored 8 of her 15 points. In the end the
Wolverines pulled away outscoring the Patriots 14 to 4 in the fourth
quarter, to extend their record to 12-0. The Patriots other scorers
were Brianna and Madison with 4 each, Brittany with 2 and Amber with 1
point. The Wolverines had balanced scoring from their starters, with
Alyson and Brianna each adding 2 points.

TJ came to
Urbana High School and ran into a tough defensive team in Windsor
Knolls. TJ never backed down, but Windsor Knolls was focused and put
out a great defensive effort to hold TJ to 19 points. TJ was led by
Hannah Clingan with 12 points and Fatima Konare with 4 points. Windsor
Knoll's Elizabeth Coletti seemed to be everywhere and had just a
wonderful all around game with 12 points and Regan Lohr chipped in 10
and Christine McKee had 8.

JV: Crestwood 17 vs Middletown 21
Middletown
bested the Crestwood Lady Cavs in a double OT thriller this afternoon.
In an evenly matched game the Crestwood girls and were leading by three
late in the fourth quarter. Then a clutch 3-point shot by Middletown’s Kathleen Stottlemyer tied the game with under a minute left to send the game to OT. The
first OT was scoreless with two missed free throws by Crestwood,
Middletown sealed the win with four made free throws in the second OT.
Middletown was led in scoring by Hannah Sledzik and Helen Holt with 6 points apiece. Kathleen
Stottlemyer and Kirsten Beckner added 5 and 4 points respectively.
Helena Ottenritter and Lindsey Brant rounded out a balanced Middletown
effort with 2 and 1 point respectively.
The Lady Cavs were paced by India Keene’s 6 points. Center Elaija Demeza added 3. Katy Valladares, Cheri O’brien, Alexis Toliver and Kayla Griffith each had two for Crestwood.

The
Boonsboro Lady Warriors were host to the West Frederick Cadets for an
exciting and intense game of basketball, with the Lady Warriors pulling
it out in the end, with a score of
36 - 30.
Boonsboro played the first half very controlled, outscoring West
Frederick, 15 - 7. The Cadets came out strong in the 3rd quarter,
outscoring Boonsboro 15 - 11, including two 3-point baskets, but it just
wasn't enough in the end, as Boonsboro pulled together and was able to
complete foul shots in the final stretch.

Great game does not describe what happened at Crestwood this
afternoon. Two evenly matched teams went back and forth the entire game.
Neither team could build or hold a large lead. Defensive plays helped
each team and made the difference at the very end of the game.
Middletown was lead in scoring by Rilee Bradshaw with eleven
points, Kristen Staley put up six points, Peyton Weaver scored five
points, Morgan Weaver had four points, Lauren Keeney scored three points
and the scoring was rounded out by Ava Brenengen and Paige Tarleton
with two points each. This team came to play and played very well.
Crestwood scoring was lead by Ali Penn with a season high effort of
twenty points, Andrea Mwando scored eight points while Karla Villacis
rounded out the point total with six points. Both teams gave a
tremendous effort in a game that could have gone either way.

Erin Hoyle's put back as time expired
proved the difference as Oakdale held off Walkersville 29-27 at Oakdale
High School Saturday afternoon. Hoyle ended up with 8 points. Selena
Robinson led the Eagles with 10. For the Lady Lions, Carlie Hopkins
scored a game high 11 points while Claire Kotchenreuter added 4.

Oakdale played host to visiting Walkersville on
Sunday. A close first half turned into a route as the Lady Lion's
came to play. Walkersville was led by strong offensive performances by
McKenzie White & Mathis scoring 16 and 15 points, respectfully.

2/10/2012JV: Windsor Knolls 40 Catoctin 22
Catoctin's JV Lady Cougars faced a huge challenge when
they hosted an undefeated Windsor Knolls team on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars appeared up to the challenge by playing well early.
The score was tied 5-5 after the first quarter. However, in the second
quarter Windsor Knolls gained control with their press and ability to
get up and down the court in a hurry and they took a 22-11 lead into
halftime. As the second half began Windsor Knolls continued to build on
the lead and led 32-15 after three quarters. The Lady Cougars
played even in the fourth quarter but Windsor Knolls proved to be too
much and won the game 40-22. Seven players scored for Windsor
Knolls. Double digit scorers were Ashleigh B. with 13 points and
Caroline W. with 11. Meredith L. scored 7 points, Tara G. had 3 points
and Kara P, Brianna D and Maddie F all chipped in with 2 points each.
For Catoctin, Michaela Persinger led the scoring attack with 8 points,
Emily Keller had 6 points, Alexis Smith had 3, Brietta Latham and
Courtney Orndorff had 2 points each and Carrie Reaver netted 1. Carrie
led the team with 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists.

Windsor Knolls visited Catoctin for a Saturday afternoon match-up and came away
with a 38-24 victory over the Lady Cougars.The game was tight through the
first quarter with the visitors leading 8-5 after one,but on this day the
Knolls had to much for Catoctin. The Knolls were led by Lohr and Mckee with
ten apiece while Catoctin was led by Taylor Crum with six and Morgan
Tracy chipped in four and had a solid game all around.

The Walkersville JV Lady
Lions saw their season record improve to 9-2 with a 30-23 win over
visiting TJ at Walkersville Middle School. A hard fought game which was
close throughout say the Lady Lions pull ahead
down the stretch for the victory. The Lady Lions were led by Carlie
Hopkins with 11 points and 10 rebounds, Maddie Hommey contributed 9
points and 12 rebounds. Other scorers were Taylor Stair 2 points, Claire
Kotchenreuther 3 points, Taylor Diggs 5 points.
TJ was led by Chante Weedon with 19 points, K. Turner and O

Varsity: Thomas Johnson 10 Walkersville

Walkersville was host to Thomas Johnson on Thursday evening at
Walkersville Middle School and came away with a victory by score of
41-10. After a tight first quarter which saw the game tied at 9 the Lady
Lions took over the game both on the offense and defensive
ends. Thomas Johnson had difficult scoring and handling the pressure
applied by the Lions from that point. After the intermission
Walkersville did an excellent job of controlling the game to come away
with the victory.

an exciting game until the 4th quarter when MSD pulled ahead for the
win! Smithsburg led ten to four after the first quarter, score was tied
at half-time, MSD led by two after three periods and Smithsburg was
held to two points in the fourth. Eve Wood-Jacobowitz led all scorers
with fourteen points while teammate Karita Lewis tallied eight. Brett

Ballenger
Creek came into this game wanting to protect their 12 - 0 record.
Playing Division 2 Monocacy, the Division 3 Ballenger team knew they
were up against a tough competitor. Monocacy started with a quick,
aggressive game, and both teams turned the ball over a lot. After a 2 - 2
tie at the end of the first quarter, Ballenger starting coming on
stronger on the offensive side and went into the half leading 31 - 7.
Sydney Clayton and Augusta Kamara both continued the offensive run in
the third quarter and Ballenger went on to capture the win.
Ballenger's
scoring was as follows: Augusta Kamara with fifteen points, Sydney
Clayton with twelve points; Kelly Burns with three points and Maddie
Mandich, Holly Christensen and Marley Tierney each with two points.

Monocacy
jumped out to a 11 to 9 lead in the first quarter! Then they pulled
away outscoring Ballenger 10 to 2 ending the half with a 21 to 11 lead.
The third quarter Monocacy out scored Ballenger 11 to 6 and at the end
of the third quarter Monocacy had a commanding lead of 32 to 17. The
fourth quarter Monocacy added another 12 points to Ballenger's 2 points
and finished the game beating Ballenger 44 to 19! The high scorers for
Monocacy were Mollie McSweeney with 15 points and Tyrae Byrd with 14
points. Ballenger's high scorers were Molly McGeahan with 6 points and

The Catoctin Lady Cougars got out to an early lead with the scoring of Persinger, Keller, Latlem, and Reaver. South Hagerstown had a difficult time breaking the full court defense of Catoctin and the Lady Cougars scored many of their baskets from steals. In the second half the Lady Rebels passed the ball with efficiency and played much better defense. The Lady Rebels cut the lead by the Lady Cougars but the lead from the first half was too much to overcome. For Catoctin, Persinger was the high scorer with 9 points. Reaver, Smith, and Keller each contributed 8 points for the Lady Cougars. The scoring was spread around for the Lady Rebels but the high scorer was Emily Talbert with 5 points.
Varsity: South Hagerstown 30; Catoctin 31
South was able to jump out to an early lead against Catoctin ending the first period with the score 9-3. Catoctin stabalized the game in the second period, notting it at 5 a piece making the score at the half 14-8 in favor of South. The third period was a battle but Catoctin was able to make up some ground, pulling to within 3. In the fourth period it was a see saw battle but Catoctin was able to pull of the come back and defeat the Lady Rebels with a winal score of 31-30. Scoring for Catoctin was balanced Highs were from Larochelle, and Gray with 6 each and Tracy, and Crum with 5 each. South's scoring was done by Lindsey Bedregal with 15, Ayanna Small with 9, and Ansleigh Tennant with 6.

with a lot of intensity early as the Wildcats hit a shot to beat the
first quarter buzzer to take a 6-4 lead. The score was knotted at 13
mid-way through the second quarter before Springfield scored the last 10
points of the half led by 8 points from Madison Riley. After the
Roaders cut the lead to 23-15 to start the second half, the Wildcats
continued it’s hot shooting and scored 9 straight to break the game
open. Jazmine Yost led Springfield with 10 points, Riley added 9, while
Erin McVicker and Hannah Moser each had 6. Brunswick was led by Olivia
Heaton’s 6 points.

Boonsboro took the 17-8 win over the Vikings. Boonsboro
had an 8-6 lead after a great first half by both teams. Despite the
effort, the Vikings could not get the ball to go into the hoop during the second
half. Meghan Carlson (#55), Lisa Kneebone (#11), Brooke Taylor (#33), and
Brittany Fowler (#30) each had two (2) points for the Vikings.
The leading scorer for Boonsboro was Abby Harrah (#42)
with six (6) points. Following her was Hannah Knight (#30) with four (4)

St John's hosted Boonsboro
in a non-divisional game on Sunday afternoon. Boonsboro got out to an 8-3 lead, but
things tightened up a bit during the second quarter as both teams played very
physical defense. However, the Lady
Warriors went on a 16-2 run in the third quarter to put the game away and won
the contest 31-13. Boonsboro had a
very balanced attack as nine players scored. They were led in scoring by Addy Coulter
with 8 points. Sydney Stotler had 4
points as did Ashley Oakes. Also, Kaitlin Ridenour had an outstanding game on
both ends of the floor by scoring 4 points and applying tough defensive pressure
the entire game. The Lady Vikings
were led by Tara Butler with 6 points, Alexis Ogren with 3 points and 16
rebounds and Maddie Abel who chipped in with 2 points and played tough on both
sides of the court.

Selena Robinson hit shots from all over
the court leading Oakdale's JV girls over Urbana at Oakdale High School
Sunday. Showing off her jump shot to go with a strong game underneath
the rim, Robinson scored 9 in the first half on her way to 18 for the
game to lead the Eagles. Oakdale was able to get up and down the
court to open up an 18-9 halftime lead and keep a comfortable lead
throughout the second half. Urbana's Jana Haas helped the Hawks hang
around, scoring 6 points in the first half and 10 for the game.
Oakdale's Isabelle Ouimette added 5 points while Julia Nicastro worked
her way into the box score scoring 4 points to go with 3 assists. Varsity: Oakdale 50 Urbana 40
On Superbowl Sunday, Oakdale played host to Urbana with first place in the conference on the line. The Hawks, unfortunately, were
at less than full strength as star player Kendall Bressee was sidelined
for the game. However, her absence did nothing to diminish the Hawks
resolve to battle the Oakdale the entire game. Everytime Oakdale
started to pull away Urbana came storming right back keeping the
game competitive throughout. Oakdale's starters all contributed
signficantly in the scoring colulmn Emma Bowman (17 points), Kendall Ohm
(13 points), Caroline Jaworski (7 points), Sara Parnes (4 points), and
Amber Albrecht (4 points). Urbana had well rounded scoring led by Katie
Aquino (13 points), Carryn Jurgnes (10 points), and Emma Watt (10
points).

The Crestwood Lady Cavaliers prevailed over TJ on Sunday. TJ was led by a 12 point effort from Chante Weedon . Jana Faucett and Kalah Turner added 2 points apiece for TJ. Brittany Morris scored 1 for the Lady Patriots.Crestwood scoring was led by India Keene with 8 points, followed by Kayla Griffith with 5. Alexis Toliver added 3 points for Crestwood. Elaija Demeza and Olivya Johnson added 2 and 1 respectively. India Keene was fouled while going for a shot with 3 seconds on the clock. She stepped up and sank both free throws to seal the win for the Lady Cavaliers.

It what was yet another great game between these two teams
Crestwood Lady Cavs were able to hold off the Thomas Johnson Lady
Patriots. After leading by as many as twelve points down the stretch the
Tj team made a tremendous comeback to be within two points with less
that twenty seconds to go. Clutch free throws by Andrea Mwando made the
difference for the Crestwood team.
Thomas Johnson was lead in scoring by Fatima Konare with eleven
points, Raeshean Simmons added six points, Alyssa Handleman scored four
points, Hannah Clingan scored two points and the scoring was rounded out
by Brenna Barron with one point.
Crestwood scoring was done by Karla Villacis with eight points
which lead the Lady Cavs. Andrea Mwando put up seven points, Ali Penn
scored five points, Cheyanne Jackson scored two points and Ayanna

In a very physical game, Ballenger Creek took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Both teams
committed
lots of fouls but with each team hitting only 25% of their foul shots,
neither one was able to capitalize on the fouls.
Clear Spring was lead by Hannah
Bowers with four points. Madlyn McDonough had three points, Jillian
Malcolm added two points and Madison Ammons put in the last point.
Augusta
Kamara and Ruth Evans each had eight points for Ballenger Creek,
followed by Brittany Clinedinst and Sydney Clayton with seven each,
Marley Tierney and Kelly Burns each with four points and Kendall Jones
with two points.JV: Brunswick 24 Smithsburg 18Short-handed
Brunswick rode a big second quarter and aggressive defense to a
hard-fought 24-18 win over Smithsburg. The Roaders held a slim 7-6 lead
after the first period but were able to extend the lead to 6 at the half
through aggressive inside play. The Lady Leopards came out strong in
the third quarter and played with a lot of intensity on the defensive
end, cutting the deficit to 20-18 after three. Brunswick locked down on
defense in the final period as Erica Craemer scored critical points down
the stretch to provide the final margin. Brittany Walker and Craemer
led the Roaders with 6 each, while Isabel Leon and Makenzie Schnur both
chipped in with 5. Erica Lindsay led Smithsburg with 7 points, Brett
Grove had 4, and Katherine Thorn 3.

JV: Springfield 41 MSD 20
MSD started the game firing on all
cylinders, led by a quick 6 points by Brook Bonheyo to take an early
10-4 lead. Springfield would jump right back into the game by scoring
the last 8 points of the quarter to take a 12-10 lead after the first.
Eryn McVicker's defense and scoring spurred the run as she tallied 4
points in the quarter. Springfield jumped out quickly in the 2nd quarter
as MSD's Center Kaitlyn Lewis had to sit most of the quarter with 3
fouls. Jazmine Yost, Diva Bowman and Kaitlin Murphy scored early in the
2nd to give Springfield a 20-10 lead. Springfield led by 11 at the half
24-13. Springfield's defense slowed down MSD in the 3rd quarter, and
pushed the lead to 31-15 after 3 quarters as Diva Bowman scored 4 of her
game high 14 points in the frame. Bowman added another 4 points in the

In a game of back and forth scoring streaks Walkersville prevailed over Urbana in a hard fought game. Urbana opened the game with a strong, aggressive offensive attack taking the first quarter lead 12-6 Walkersville stepped up the pressure in the 2nd quarter taking the lead into half time 20-17 Urbana then game back to even the game where the two teams traded 1 point leads for most of the second half of the game. With about 4 minutes left in the game Walkersville was able to push the lead out with great team shooting. Walkersville
was lead by Mckenzie Mathis, Megan Dusci and Ana Taylor all with 10

Monocacy used balanced scoring, their pressure defense, and 13
point scoring from Mollie McSweeney in defeating Boonsboro 41-27.Tyrae

each.Boonsboro got a great all-around game from Allyson Sikes who scored

Saturday night Brunswick played host to the Smithsburg Lady Leopards and came away with a 38-14 victory. Smithsburg started a little slow and the Lady Railroaders took advantage by gaining a 15-2 half-time lead.

In what was a very had fought game for both teams Oakdale overcomes
Crestwood. Crestwood held several leads during this game but Oakdale
was not overcome by it. The Oakdale team stayed composed and never let
Crestwoods lead bother them. And they were able to outlast the Lady Cavs
with clutch free throw shooting that was really the difference.

J.V. Boonsboro 30; South Hagerstown 11
The game was fairly close through the first half with both teams playing good defense. The Lady Warriors were able to pull away in the second half with the excellent shooting of Hannah Knight. Knight finished the game with a game high of 15 points. Emily Holmes chipped in with 7 points for Boonsboro. Sirri Akaya had a game high of 5 points for the Lady Rebels.
Varsity: South Hagerstown 28; Boonsboro 40
Boonsboro traveled to South to complete in a divisional game. Boonsboro jumped out to an early lead and went in to the half with a 5 point lead. South was never able to come back from their deficit. Boonsboro's defense was excellent through out the game. Holding South to just 2 first period points. Leading the way for Boonsboro was Kaitlin Ridenour with 12, Sydney Stotler 10, and Allyson Sikes with 7. For the Rebels Lindsey Bedregal 12, and Ayanna Small with 7.
1/29/2012JV: MSD 49 Clear Springs 9
MSD’s leading scorer was Eve Wood-Jacobowitz with 14 points. Brooke Bonheyo and
Karita Lewis contributed with 12 points and 10 points. MSD’s
benchwarmers contributed four points to the game. Clear Spring’s leading
scorer was Madlyn McDonough with four points
JV: Brunswick vs. CatoctinBrunswick
came out hitting on all cylinders and led 10-6 after one period.
Catoctin played tough, disciplined basketball to chip away at
Brunswick’s early lead and headed into halftime up 14-12. The Roaders
upped the intensity on the defensive end to shut out the Cougars during
the third period and take a tight 15-14 lead heading into the 4th.
Michaela Persinger and Emily Keller each score clutch baskets in the
final period, while Brunswick had trouble converting scoring
opportunities as the Cougars held on for a 24-20 victory. Keller led
Catoctin’s balanced attack with 6, while Persinger, Camryn Skowronski
and Carrie Reaver each had 4. Brunswick was led by Erin Davis’s 8
points, while Brittany Walker added 7.

Springfield pulled a 47-26 win over the St.Johns Vikings. The first
half was well contested between the two teams. Great defensive pressure
from the Vikings during the second quarter shrunk Springfield's lead to only 16
points. Springfield came back strong during the second half while the ball
would not fall for the Vikings. The leading scorers for the Vikings were
Paula Hirshorm (#12) and Brooke Taylor (#33) with 10 points each. Meghan
Carlson (#55), Sarah Case (#25) and Brittany Fowler (#30 ) each
contributed two (2) points.

42-26. The Lady Vikings jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the first
quarter. However, the Lady Cats took control of the second quarter by
playing tough defense and the outstanding shooting performance of Kate
Wade. She scored 7 of her game high 20 points in that quarter that
sparked a 13-0 run. St John's was able to get back into the game early in
the third quarter to get the game close, but Kate Wade was able to knock down
back to back three pointers to stretch the lead back out. Julia Smoot had
8 points and Paige Young had 6 points for the Lady Cats. The Lady Vikings
were led by Alexis Ogren who had 16 points and 15 rebounds. Tara Butler
chipped in with 5 points.

JV: Middletown 22 Oakdale 27
Middletown
played Oakdale on Sunday and it
was a battle until the end. In the 1st quarter both teams played
tremendous defense making it hard to score on either side. Oakdale
turned up the heat in the 2nd quarter causing
Middletown several turnovers closing the half 7-10.
Middletown was a different team coming into
the 2nd half. Kristin Beckner scored a quick 6 points and 2pts by Helena
Ottenritter and with tough team defense got within 2 points of Oakdale,
but
it was not enough. Oakdale continue to capitalize on Middletown’s
turnovers winning the game 22-27. Middletown scoring was lead by
Kirstin Beckner with 8pts 4 rebounds, Hannah Sledzik 4pts 5 rebounds,
Brianna Crutchfield 4pts 3 rebounds, Katie Stottlemyer 3pts 4 rebounds,
Helena Ottenritter 2pts and Lindsey Brant adding 1pt. Helena Holt had 6
rebounds, Haven Brandenburg with 2 and Alyssa Arney with 1. Oakdale
high scorers were Marshall and Robinson with
9pts each, Hoyle 5pts, and Ovinette with 4pts. It was a Great game and
participation by all the girls!
Varsity: Middletown 24 Oakdale 30
Oakdale played aggressive the entire game between
their full court and half court pressure Middletown was not able to get
into the flow or their offense. Oakdale was led by Emma Bowman she
created their offense by penetrating and either
shooting or dishing off a great pass. Oakdale’s leading scorer was K.
Ohm with 15 points followed by Emma Bowman with 11 points. Middletown
struggled from the field but never gave up and tried to mount a comeback
behind the scoring of Kristyn Staley and
Paige Tarleton both with 6 points.

Katherine
Thorn led all scorers with twelve points in the win for Smithsburg.
Sirri Akaya tallied ten points for South as they battled Smithsburg the
entire game with their aggressive man to man defense.

scored the first two points but that didn't stop South from taking over
for the win. Lindsey Bedregal scored twenty-five points while teammate
Jasmine Ballard added eleven. Emma Conrey and Allison Cline score

Catoctin came out strong in the first quarter to take a 16-3 lead and beat host Brunswick 46-29 Sunday afternoon.

The Walkersville Lady Lions bested the Crestwood Lady Cavaliers 34-9 on
Sunday. Walkersville was led in scoring by Carly Hopkins with 19 points,
and recieved scoring help from Stephanie Reyes(2), Taylor Diggs (3),
Alexa Daye (3), Claire Kotchenreuther (4), and Taylor Stair (1), and
Olivia Johnson (2).
Crestwood scoring was led by India Keene and Cheri O'brien with 4 points each. Elaija Demeza added 1 for the Lady Cavs.Varsity: Walkersville 35 vs Crestwood 22
Crestwood was defeated by a very well rounded Walkersville team.
While the game was kept close in the first half the Walkersville team
opend the third quater win a run that Crestwood could not over come.
Walkersville was lead in scoring by McKenzie Mathis with twelve
points, Anastasa Taylor had six points, Elizabeth Peifer scored five
points, Shelby Williams and Megan Dusci had four points each. Scoring
two points each were AnastasIa Miller and McKenzie White.
Crestwood was lead by Andrea Mwando with eight points, Karla
Villacis with seven points, Niya Burroughs, Cheyenne Jackson, Ayanna
Hawkins each added two points and the scoring was rounded out by Ali
Penn with one points.
JV: Windsor Knolls 39 Urbana 19
The WKMS JV girls came home to extend their record to 10-0. Once again
the Wolverines came out strong with a 15-2 lead at the end of the first
period. Windsor Knolls full court pressure proved to be too much for
the Hawks to handle producing many turnovers. The Hawks never gave up
and with a late 3rd quarter press were able to begin to produce
turnovers themselves but were unable to close the gap with a final score
of WKMS 39 Hawks 19.
The WKMS Meredith Lapen had an outstanding performance on the boards and
was able to put up 8 points as well as many steals. WKMS had eight
girls contribute to the score in this game. The Hawks were led by Jana H
with 8 points, Stephanie M with 4, Sophia and Caitlin each with a pair.

Strong defense by Springfield was the difference in defeating

In an exciting high scoring affair,Monocacy was able to hold off
Springfield 56-44.Monocacy had big leads three times only to have
Springfield battle back each time.Springfield`s Kate Wade had a hot
shooting game scoring a game high 19 points,including five three
pointers! Olivia Coleman had 10 points and M.Budnicki adding nine
points.Monocacy had balanced scoring from six players,Charlotte Kowalk
with a team high 12 points,Tyrae Byrd 10 points,and eight points each
from Tanaisia Jow,Kayla Quarles and Mollie McSweeney.

West Frederick JV Girls defeated N. Hagerstown 49-20. The score at the
half was Wf 18 and NH 10. The Lady Cadets closed out the game on a 19-7
4th quarter run. Lead scorers for N. Hagerstown were Arielle
Jean-Jacques with 11 pts and Maggie Keller with 4pts. W. Frederick was
led by Julia Slaton with 15 pts, followed by Kyrsten Linthicum with 14
pts.

West Frederick jumped out to a 9 point lead in the 1st quarter and by the half was up 24 to
4. North.Hagerstown made a push in the second half and outscored West Frederick, but
was not enough . West Frederick's Darling King had 21pts to lead all scores. North.Hagerstown's leading scorer was Natalie Karlen with 9points.
JV: Ballenger Creek 31 MSD 15
In
their previous match-up, Ballenger Creek won by only four points,
ensuring that this would be a hotly contested rematch. Both teams played
all-out, physical basketball for the duration of the game. With
Ballenger leading at the end of the first quarter, MSD kept the Lady
Bulldogs scoreless in the second quarter and went into the half leading
by one point. Ballenger was able to hold MSD scoreless in the third
quarter, where they also got ahead by sixteen points. With tough defense
on both sides, each team scored only four points in the fourth quarter,
leaving Ballenger on top 31 to 15. This leaves the Lady Bulldogs
undefeated at 11-0!
Only
five players scored for Ballenger. Augusta Kamara was the high scorer
with eleven points. Ruth Evans had eight, Makenzie Holston had seven,
Brittany Clinedinst had three and Sydney Clayton added the final two
points.
For MSD, Karita Lewis had nine points, Brooke Bonheyo had four points and the remaining two points were scored by Eve Wood-Jacobowitz.
Varsity: Crestwood 25 TJ 13
Crestwood claimed victory over host TJ on Saturday, posting a 25 – 13 win. The first half was a closely contested affair, with Crestwood going into the half with a two point lead, 10 -8. As
the third quarter began, the visitors picked up the defensive pressure,
outscoring the Lady Patriots eight to two and extending their lead to
eight. TJ played hard throughout the game and closed the gap, but in the end Crestwood pulled away for the victory. Karla Villicis led the win with seven points, followed by Andrea Mwando with six and Ali Penn with four. Ayanna Hawkins, Dani Tang, Sydney Kaiser and Niya Burroughs rounded out the scoring for Crestwood with two points each. Thomas Johnson was led in scoring by Hannah Clingan and Fatima Konare with four points each. Raeshean
Simmons and Sarah Rouch each chipped in with two points, and Brenna
Barron completed the scoring for the Patriots with one point.
JV: Oakdale 43 Poolesville 25
Down
19-18 at the half the JV Oakdale girls team did what they do best, turn
up the defense. Oakdale was able to shut out Poolesville in the
3rd quarter and added solid free throw shooting on the way to a 43-25
win at Oakdale Middle School Saturday afternoon. Erin Hoyle led the way
for the Eagles with 14 points. Selena Robinson added 9 points and
Isabelle Ouimette 8. Poolesville's Madison Peyton had 6 points for the
Falcons and Siann Riggs scored 5.
Varsity: Oakdale 38 Poolesville 28
Oakdale played
host to Poolesville Saturday afternoon. For the first free quarters,
Poolesville battled Oakdale staying within striking distance.
Poolesville eventually ran out of gas and Oakdale was able to pull away
and cruised to a comfortable 38-28 victory. Oakdale had a well balanced
attack led by Emma Bowman's 13 points followed by strong offensive
performances by Kendall Ohm (11 points) and Amber Albrecht (9 points).
Relentless pressure from Caroline Jaworski and Sara Parnes limited
Poolesville's opportunities. Kristen Darragh had a strong first half
scoring all 9 of her points. Casey Harkens followed with a strong second
half performance scoring all 9 of her points. Jami D'Amelio and Allie
Nevius also chipped in 5 a piece.

JV: Catoctin 26 Smithsburg 16
The Catoctin JV Lady Cougars played host to the Smithsburg Leopards on
Friday night. The Cougars once again came out slow as Smithsburg opened
up a 6-0 lead. The Leopards led 6-3 after one period. The Lady
Cougars came alive in the second quarter and outscored the Leopards 13-6
to take a 16-12 lead into the half. Both teams played well defensively
in the second half as the Cougars took the third quarter 6-2 and fourth
quarter 4-2 fo beat the Leopards 26-16. Both teams got scoring from
many sources. All eight players who suited up for the Lady Cougars
scored. Michaela Persinger led the scoring attack with 8 points. Alexi
Baumgardner and Alexis Smith each had 4 points, Courtney Orndorff had 3
points, Camryn Skowronski, Brietta Latham and Emily Keller had 2 points
each. Carrie Reaver rounding out the scoring with 1 point and she led
the defensive attack for the Lady Cougars. For Smithsburg Megan Black
led the team with 4 points and Faith Bruchey, Brett Grove, Erica
Lindsey, Sydney Davis, Katherine Thorn and Jensen Bachtell all had 2
points each.

Tonight
at Walkersville Middle School the home standing Lady Lions came away
with a 41-36 victory over a very tough one loss Windsor Knolls team.
41-36 The visitors played aggressive defense throughout and closed the
gap of the Lady Lions with an effective zone defense. Half time saw
the score tight with the Lions holding a slim 16-13 lead. Windsor Knolls
came out of the locker room strong and outscored
the Lions 15 to 7 in the third quarter to take a 28-23 lead. Then the
Lions eventually took over the lead and maintain throughout in the
fourth by aggressively attacking the basket. Windsor Knolls was lead in
scoring by Maddie Cederdahl with 20 points, most
of which came in the third. Regan Lohr has 10 points, H.Mills 4 points,
and L. Novesal finished with 2 points. The Lady Lions was lead in
scoring by Ana Taylor with 10 points and 6 rebounds. MacKenzie White had
a nice balanced game contributing 8 points, 5
assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Auriana Johnson pulled down 13
rebounds and had 6 points. McKenzie Mathis had 2 points and 5 assist and
Megan Dusci had 5 points. Others contributing in the scoring column for

1/23/2012JV: Springfield 49 South Hagerstown 13
Springfield got out to an early lead with the excellent guard play of Eryn McVicker and the accurate shooting of Lexi Robinson. South Hagerstown was never able to slow down Springfield's offense. Springfield moved the ball very well and was able to locate the open player for the shot. Lexi Robinson was the high scorer for Springfield with 16 points. Kaitlyn Murphy and Hanna Moser both had 6 points. Ebony Earl was the high scorer for South Hagerstown with 4 points. Taylor Morgan scored her first 3 point shot.

This was a hard fought game. Both teams played hard nosed defense and hustled extremely hard. South was able to get out to a small lead in the first half going into the break 18-11. Springfield was able to pull the score within 2 points at one point in the second half, but south would pull away and secure the victory by 6 points. South was led in scoring by Lindsey Bedregal with 11, Ayanna Small with 10, and Olivia Griffin with 6. Springfield was led by Kate Wade with 8, Sydney Hockensmith and Olivia Coleman both added 6.

jumped out to an early 16-6 lead after the first quarter with 5
different players scoring. With West Frederick not having their full
roster available Springfield increased their lead to 21-6 at the half.
West Frederick continued to play hard, and finished up strong. The final
was Springfield 41 West Frederick 14. Scorers for Springfield: Lexie

The Vikings pulled out a 21-13 home win over the South Hagerstown Rebels.
Lisa Kneebone (#11) stepped up to the plate and played the entire game
while contributing six (6) points to the team's total. Sarah Case (#25)
lead in offensive rebounds and followed with five (5)
points. Brooke Taylor (#33) broke up several plays defensively and
contributed four (4) points. Meghan Carlson (#55) lead the team in
defensive rebounds and contributed three (3) points. Paula Hirshorm (#12)
showed no hesitation to drive to the bucket and added two (2) points.
Brittany Fowler (#30) caused several turnovers and added one (1) point to
the teams total. Brianna Fowler (#35) caused several turnovers
leading the fast breaks for the Vikings. Both Satreen Hendi (#22) and
Amber Hitchcock (#54) contributed defensively by breaking up plays and
assisted their teammates into scoring. It was a great team effort
overall!
The Rebels put up a good fight with great pressure towards the end of the
game. Emily Talbert (#24) led the Rebels with four (4) points. Ebony

Hagerstown 37; Saint John's 21
The Lady
Vikings hosted the Lady Rebels in a hard fought contest. South Hagerstown
jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead and never looked back on their way to a
37-21 win over St John's. Lindsey Bedregal had an excellent game
showcasing both her ability to drive and shoot the ball for South
Hagerstown. She ended up with 19 points. Also, the Lady
Rebels got 8 points from Ayanna Small and Jasmine
Ballard who had 4 points. The Lady Vikings were led in scoring by
Tara Butler who had 8 points. Clio Kerr contributed 6 points and they
got a solid performance from Jenna Hendi who scored 4 points and nabbed 9
rebounds.
JV: Ballenger Creek vs. Catoctin: 29 - 25
Wow--this
was another nail-biter! Catoctin came on strong, giving Ballenger a run
for their money. These teams were always within five points of each
other, as they both fought hard to end up with the win. Many fouls were
committed, with both teams getting into double bonus in both halves.
Neither team was able to capitalize on foul shots, though, with
Ballenger shooting 21% and Catoctin shooting 29%. In the end, Ballenger
Creek came out on top, giving them a record of 10-0 for the season! Way
to go, Lady Bulldogs!
The

followed by Sydney Clayton with eight points. Adding to the score were
August Kamara with six points, Makenzie Holston with three points,

scored 12 and Catoctin hit 9. Catoctin won their second game against
Ballenge Creek with a 31 to 22 win. High scores for Ballenger were Kim
Hammond with 11 and Bailey Easterday with 6. The leading scores from
Catoctin were Allison Larochelle with 7 and Taylor Crum and Emily
Kuykendall with 6 each!
JV: Brunswick 29 Linganore 8.
The visiting Lady Lancers kept things tight in the first quarter, then
the Lady Roaders got things going and pulled away in the second and
third quarters. Brunswick was led by Olivia Heaton with 8 points. Isabel
Leon had 6 points and 6 rebounds, while Makenzie Schnur added 6 points.
Schnur and Abby Cole each had 8 boards. Point guard Kennedi Ambush did a
nice job of handling the ball for the Lady Lancers, who had 4 points
each from Elizabeth Gaudlip and Jessica Mitchell.

Linganore came into Brunswick Sunday evening and tore the nets for 48 points in a 48-21 victory.

In a physical rematch the wolverines prevailed. The falcons cut the
lead to six points with aggressive play, but were never able to pull
closer. Samme, on the Falcons, played great defense making it difficult
for the Wolverines to penetrate. The Wolverines played great team
defense and held the Falcons to 14 points. Hailey and Madison led the
Falcons with 3 points each, and the Wolverines had three players with 5
or more points.
Varsity: Windsor Knolls 53 Poolesville 42
Poolesville
came to Urbana High School on a mission Sunday to revenge the previous
weeks close loss to WKMS. They came out in the first half and beat
Windsor knolls at all facets of the game. They hustled and played their
way to an 8 point halftime lead. Windsor Knolls went into halftime and
came out with a new attitude on defense and attacked the basket on
offense and pulled out an 11 point victory. The game was much closer
than the score indicates. Poolesville had a very balanced scoring
attack led by Casey Harkins with 11, Karyn Comfort with 10, Allison
Nevius with 7, and Mollie Bodmer with 76 points. Windsor Knolls was led
by a strong offensive performance from Madeline Cederdahl with 22
points, Regan Lohr with 14, and Chris McKee with 9.
JV: Oakdale 50 Monocacy

Oakdale’s Isabelle Ouimette helped erase a 5 point deficit scoring 7 straight points in a decisive 2nd
Quarter as Oakdale was able to pull away from Monocacy. Ouimette
scored 21 for the game to lead all scorers. Chrissy Marshall added 9
points and Emily Woodward 7 for Oakdale. Taylor Stafford led Monocacy
with 16 points and Jessie Titus added 8.
Varsity: Oakdale 25 Monocacy 38
For the first three quarters, this was a back and forth game with no
team able to establish dominance. However, at the start of the fourth
with the score Monocacy 26 and Oakdale 23; Monocacy pulled away and left
with a convincing 38-25 victory. A fast 2-3 zone by Monocacy coupled
with cold outside shooting from Oakdale was the difference in the final
quarter.
Emma Bowman led Oakdale with 10 points and 5 steals. Sara Parnes scored 3
points and had 3 steals. Emily Scott contributed 4 points. Amber
Albrecht had a season high five rebounds in the losing cause.
Monocacy was paced by Tanaisia Jow with 10 points and Charlotte Kowalk with 9 points.

The
Hawks and Patriots braved the ice and snow for a well played Saturday
afternoon contest. The two teams played fairly even through 1 with TJ
leading 8-6, but behind 7 Chante Weedon 2nd quarter points, the Patriots
opened their lead to 10 at the break. The Hawks stayed tough in the
3rd, scoring the final 7 points of the quarter, highlighted by Alex
Halton's long 3 before the buzzer to close the gap to 23-16. But Jana
Faucett opened the 4th with a 3 pointer of her own and the Patriots
never looked back winning by 12. Halton lead the Hawks with 11. Weedon
lead all scorers with 18, followed by Brianna Forbes with 12.

1/20/2012JV: MSD 24 Catoctin 20
The Catoctin Lady Cougars hosted the MSD Orioles in a Friday night
boys/girls doubleheader at Thurmont Middle School. MSD came out strong
and dominated the first half to lead 14-3 at the half. Catoctin
struggled mightilly to score against the MSD halfcourt zone
defense. Things opened up a bit in the third quarter as MSD opened up a
24-10 lead. The Lady Cougars finally seemed to figure things out in
the fourth quarter and made a furious comeback by winning the quarter
10-0. It was not enough though and MSD held on for a 24-20
victory. MSD was led in scoring by Brooke Bonheyo with 10 points, Eve
Wood-Jacobowitz had 8 points and Katilyn Weeks, Kaela Luttrell and
Karita Lewis all had 2 points. For Catoctin, Carrie Reaver and Alexis
Smith scored 6 points each. Brietta Latham had 4 points, Courtney
Orndorff and Camryn Skowronski had 2 points each.

In a battle of two
division one powers Oakdale and Walkersville played a remarkable
defensive game. In the end Walkersville came from behind holding Oakdale
scoreless in the last 2:57 of the 4th quarter to pull
out a 31-28 victory. Walkersville was lead by Carlie Hopkins with 13
points, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds. Also contributing for Walkersville
Taylor Diggs 8 points 12 rebounds, Taylor Stair 6 points, Olivia Johnson
4 points, Maddie Hommey 1 point 7 rebounds 4
assistsand 5 steals. Oakdale was lead by Erin Hoyle with 10 points,
Chrissy Marshall 8 points, Emily Woodard and Selena Robinson each had 4,

The Oakdale Lady Bears visited Walkersville and came away with a hard
fought victory on Wednesday evening. The Bears jumped out quickly to a
6-0 lead to start the game. Oakdale capitalizied on several turnovers
by the Lions during the first two periods and held a ten point lead,
18-8 at the break. The Lady Lions fought hard out of halftime and cut
the lead to 4 just prior to the end of the 3rd period but critical
turnovers allowed Oakdale to extend the lead at the end of three. The
Bears continued their pressure and were able to outscore the Lions 17-14
in the 4th to secure the conference win.
Oakdale was led by a strong shooting performance by Kendall Ohm who had
19 pts and Emma Bowman with 14. Also contributing were Sara Parnes 5pts,
Amber Albrecht 4pts, along with Carlie Jaworski and Emily Scott who
each chipped in 1 pt. The Lady Lions were led by Ana Taylor with 11
pts, Mackenzie White 6pts, and McKenzie Mathis, Emma Crouch and Shelby
Williams had 5 pts. each. Also contributing in scoring column were
Megan Dusci 3pts and Kendra MacAbee with 1pt.
1/16/012JV: Monocacy 27 South Hagerstown 18
South Hagerstown got out to an early lead in the first quarter. The lead was overcome by the beginning of the second quarter by the outstanding play of Michaela Joannides (#20). Joannides converted multiple steals into fast break points in the first half. Joannides had 10 points in the first half. South was able to tighten the defense and make better passes in the second half. Joannides ended the game with a total of 15 points for Monocacy. Morgan Magaha chipped in 6 points for Monocacy. The scoring was spread around for the Lady Rebels. Seven girls were able to contribute with putting points on the board. Ebony Earl was the high scorer with 4 points and Sidney Kelly scored her first 3 point shot.
Varsity: South Hagerstown 30; Monocacy 56
Monocacy came to hagerstown on monday evening. This game started off with an 8 point run by Monocacy. south battled back to finish the period 16-11. In the second period South hit a 3 to make it a 2 point game. The score statyed
close for a short time. Monocacy went on a scoring frenzie and went into the half 31-18. In the 3rd period Monocacy continued to pour it on and south was not able to gain any ground, scoring only 3 in the 3rd period. the 4th period was evenly played, but the deficit was just too much for south to make up. Monocacy was led in scoring by Mollie McSweeny with 24, and Tyrae Byrd with 17. South was led by Lindsey Bedregal with 16.
JV: Windsor Knolls 36 Poolesville 24
Poolesville's JV Girls had too much "Coffey" during their home game against
the Windsor Knolls JV Girls on Monday as the Knoll's Sam Coffey poured in 19
points to defeat the Falcons by a final score of 36-24. WK ran off to 15-4
opening quarter lead with two steals-and-buckets from Poolesville's Hailey
Khalil (10 points) keeping the Falcons from being shut out. Poolesville made a
run of it in the third quarter but Coffey and Meredith Lapen (nine points)
proved to be too much for the Falcons to overcome. Tara Gibson contributed four
points for Windsor Knolls and Delaney�Cecco did the same for Poolesville.�
Varsity: Windsor Knolls 41 Poolesville 33
The Windsor Knolls Varsity Girls saw Poolesville run past them numerous
times in the first half and thus faced a 23-21 deficit at the mid-way point of
the game. The second half was a different story as Windsor Knolls got back on
"D", set up in a 3-2 zone, slowed the game down, and beat Poolesville by a final
score of 41-33. Regan Lohr (17 points) and Christine McKee (14) were the
difference makers for the visitors, which also picked up scoring from Elizabeth
Coletti and Madeline Cederdahl (four points each). The home-standing Falcons
picked up eight points from Casey Harkens, seven from Jami D'Amelio, and six
from Kristen Darragh.

JV: Ballenger Creek 42 North Hagerstown 8
The
JV Lady Bulldogs continued their successful season, as they beat North
Hagerstown, with a score of 42 - 8. North Hagerstown came on hard,
pressing the entire game and keeping Ballenger Creek running. In the
end, however, Ballenger's shooting and teamwork put them on top.
Scoring
for the Lady Bulldogs was as follows: Augusta Kamara with sixteen
points; Sydney Clayton with twelve points; Makenzie Holston, Holly
Christensen and Brittany Clinedinst each with four points and Kendall
Jones with two points.
For
North Hagerstown, Liz Fahey, Kamaji Green, Arielle Jean-Jacques each
had two points and Micalea Fleetwood and Alyssa Waters each contributed
one point.
JV: Smithsburg: 17 Boonsboro: 9
Smithsburg jumped out to large lead but Boonsboro battled
back with great defense to hold Smithsburg to a four point second
half. Katherine Thorn led all scorers with nine points to lead
Smithsburg to a victory. Taylor Strawser and Emily Holmes led Boonsboro
in scoring.
Varsity: Boonsboro: 45 Smithsburg: 14
Boonsboro scored first and never looked back to take the
victory from Smithsburg. Kamilla Miller and MacKenzie Peperak led
Boonsboro in scoring. Allison Cline had six points for Smithsburg.
JV: Middletown 23 vs Urban 21
Middletown JV girls played
Urbana for the first time this season and will never forget it. The first quarter was played strong by both
Middletown and Urbana.The Knights took
advantage of the 3-2 half court defense by passing long and getting some
easy baskets ending the quarter 7-0.
Urbana fought back by working the ball inside scoring 4pts to Middletowns 2pts closing the half (M)9-(U)4 .
Urbana came into the second half with intesity and determination catching
Middletown off guard creating several
Middletown turnovers. These turnovers gave Urbana the opportunity to score a stagering 17pts in the second half; however, Middletwon
was still able to hold on to the lead ending the game 23-21.

Middletown was Stup with 10pts 8 rebounds,
Holt 8pts 5 rebounds,
Brant 2pts, Stottlemyer 2pts and 5 rebounds and Beckner 1pt 4 rebounds. Scoring for

Varsity: Middletown 33 vs Urbana 44
Urbana came out at a fast past in the first half out scoring
Middletown for a half time lead of 27 to 13. The second half Urbana
came out with a 14 to 4 3rd quarter. Middletown used the 4th quarter to
make valiant comeback out scoring
Urbana 16 to 3 but the Hawks were to much for the Knights and went on
to win 44 to 33. The Hawks were lead by Gaelin Hirabayashi with 16
followed by Kendall Bresee with 11. The Knights were lead in scoring by
Lauren Keeney with 10 and Rilee Bradshaw with
7.
JV: Poolesville 24 Walkersville 17
In a battle between two evenly matched teams, Poolesville added to a slight
3rd quarter advantage to take a 24-17 win over Walkersville's JV Girls. The
homestanding Falcons led by just two at the end of three before outscoring the
visitors 9-4 in the final period. Poolesville's Hailey Khalil led all scorers
with ten points. Delaney Cecco hit all of the spots in the box score with six
points, seven rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Walkersville picked up six
points fropm Maddi Hommey and five points from Carlie Hopkins. The Falcons�also
picked up ten rebounds from Samme Mullikin.
Varsity: Walkersville 46 Poolesville 31
Walkersville's Varsity Girls were on fire early on as they opened up an
early 14-point lead. Poolesville closed the gap to five later on but Anastasia
Taylor (17 points---including eight in the first period) and McKenzie Mathis (13
points) proved to be more than the Falcons could handle as Walkersville beat
Poolesville by a final score of 46-31. Mackenzie White also chipped in seven
points for the visiting Lions. For Poolesville, Mollie Bodmer scored 12 point,
Casey Harkins had eight, and Allie Nevius pitched in five.
JV: Crestwood 34 vs Monocacy 29
Crestwood bested Monocacy in a hotly contested contest on Sunday. Monocacy never trailedin the game, going into the fourth quarter with a 23-18 lead. Crestwood
prevailed in the end with tough defense, and took advantage of fast
break opportunities from Monocacy turnovers in the final minutes.
Monocacy was led by Taylor Stafford, who had a team high 9 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter. She was aided by a seven point effort from Jessie Titus. Michaela Joannides added 6 points. Taqia Rollins and Taniya Christian added 4 points and 3 points each, respectively.
The Lady Cavs were led by Alexis Toliver’s team high 18 points. India Keene added 8 points for Crestwood. Cheri O’brien had 4 points. Elaija Demeza and Kayla Griffith each had 2 points.
Varsity: Crestwood 23 Monocacy 32
Monocacy was able to remain undefeated by out lasting a great
effort by Crestwood to come back. The Monocacy started very strong in
the first half and took a nineteen to six lead into the half. Crestwood
was finally able to make a run in the third quarter to bring the game to
with in three points but it was not to be for the Lady Cavs.
The Monocacy team was lead in scoring by Mollie Mcsweeny who had
fourteen points. Tanaisia Jow put up six points, Charlotte Kowalk scored
five points, Tyrae Byrd had four points and Eliza Manning added two
points.
The Lady Cavs were lead by Ali Penn with nine points. Andrea Mwando
scored seven points, Nia Burroughs scored five points and Karla
Villicis scored two points.
JV: Brunswick 38 St. John's 16.
Brunswick rode a strong second half to a 38-16 win in a game where both
sides played with a lot of intensity. The Lady Roaders jumped out to a
8-0 lead but the Vikings hung tough to keep the game tight, with
Brunswick leading 15-5 at the half. The Lady Roaders' outstanding team
play and good passing was the difference as they pulled away in the
fourth quarter. Isabel Leon led Brunwick with 12 points and 5 rebounds,
while Olivia Heaton had 8 points and 3 assists. Makenzie Schnur added 7
points and 5 boards. St. John's was led by sharp-shooting Lisa
Kneebone's 7 points and Meghan Carlson's 5.
Varsity: Brunswick St. John's
JV: Windsor Knolls 40 Linganore 12
WKMS went out to an early lead, Linganore was able to cut it to nine at
halftime. WKMS extended the lead in the third quarter and Linganore was
not able to catch up.
Varsity: Windsor Knolls 47 Linganore 36
Windsor Knolls came
out strong and through defense and team play on offense stayed in
control from start to finish. Linganore made a couple of runs to cut
the lead to 9, but Windsor Knolls stepped up their defense and shared
the ball on offense to keep the game in control. Windsor Knolls got
strong games from Christine McKee with outstanding rebounding and 8
points, great help defense and strong inside play from Hannah Mills with
7 points. Other scorers included Regan Lohr with 11, Madeline
Cederdahl with 8, and Maddie Davies with 4. Linganore was lead by
Sophia Heitzig 10 points, Jaqueline Mitchell with 6, and Elizabeth
Shiller with 6 points.
JV: Oakdale 38, Thomas Johnson 37
Thomas Johnson pushed Oakdale's girls
to the edge before the Eagles were able to hold on for a one point win
at Oakdale High School. Selena Robinson scored 10 of her team high 14
points in the first half as Oakdale built a 23-16 halftime lead. TJ's
girls battled back, closing the gap to within 2 after three. The fourth
quarter produced multiple lead changes. A basket by Oakdale's Isabelle
Ouimette with 48 seconds left put the Eagles up for good. Ouimette
finished with 7 points. TJ was not without chances to retake the lead.
Three possessions in the last 40 seconds produced multiple chances,
including two TJ misses at the foul line with 4 seconds left. Chante
Weedon led TJ with 14 points while Jana Faucett added 7.
Varsity: Oakdale 40 Thomas Johnson 20
Oakdale
played host to Thomas Johnson on Sunday afternoon. In a competitive
first half Oakdale held a narrow 20-14 half time lead. Oakdale cranked
up the defensive intensity and and TJ went cold from the field in the
second half resulting in a comfortable 40-20 victory for the home team.
Emma Bowman (14), Kendall Ohm (11), and Danielle Amoriell (6) paced
Oakdale in scoring. Emily Scott had five steals to lead Oakdale's
defensive efforts. TJ had well balanced scoring by Fatima Konare (6),
Alyssa Handelman (4), Hannah Clingan (4), Raeshean Simmons (4), and
Brenna Baran (2).
1/14/2012JV: Catoctin (26) at Clear Spring (16)
Catoctin visited Clear
Spring for a Saturday evening showdown. Both teams played aggressive
defense with Catoctin coming away with the win. The teams battled to a
10-9 halftime score. Catoctin jumped out to a 6 to 0 lead after the
first quarter. Clear Spring then scored nine in the second quarter to
make it a 1 point game at the half.
The Blazers gave Catoctin a
scare but could not keep pace with the scoring in the second half.
Catoctin outscored the Blazers 16 to 7 to seal the win. Catoctin's full
and 1/2 court trapping defenses frustrated the Blazers offense,
especially in the 3rd as they were held to 1 point. The Blazers showed
some improvement over the the last meeting as that game was won by
Catoctin by 26
points.
The leading scorer for both teams was Clear Spring's
Madison Ammons who had 8 points, Hannah Bowers added 4 while Mariah
Holmes and Jillian Malcolm added 2 a piece. Catocitin was well
rounded in scoring as 7 players scored. They were led by Carrie Reaver
with 6 points. Brietta Latham, Camryn Skowronski, Alexis Smith and
Michaela Persinger all had 4 a piece while Alexis Baumgardner and Lauren
Drumheller each added 2.
JV: Boonsboro Monocacy
Varsity: Boonsboro 24 Monocacy 34
Monocacy came out
tough in the first quarter, outscoring Boonsboro 9 - 4 with some strong
under-the-basket shots. The Boonsboro girls came out in the second
quarter with much tougher defense, holding Monocacy to only 6 points,
making the halftime score 15 - 7. The second half was a much more even
match and a good physical game, but the Lady Warriors just couldn't
catch Monocacy. Third quarter scoring was 10 - 8 (Monocacy), and
although Boonsboro held Monocacy to no made baskets in the fourth
quarter, they scored 9 points on foul shots, making the final score 34 -
24, in favor of Monocacy.

Poolesville broke the game open with a 1st quarter 10-4 lead which set the spread for the game. The lead was widened at half to 15-8 with Urbana making a push in the 4rd
quarter but not enough to overcome the deficit. The Games leading
scorer was Poolesville’s Hailey Khalil with 9 followed by Bella Garner
and Delaney Cecco each adding 7. Urbana’s leading scorer was Jana Haas
with 7.

Windsor Knolls was in control of this game from the start to the
finish. There combination of pressing and man to man defense, kept the
Crestwood team trying to catch up. Crestwood struggled with their
offensive efforts. Windsor Knolls played very well on offense and
defense. Crestwood never challenged for the lead at any time.
Windsor Knolls was lead in scoring by Regan Lohr with thirteen
points. Christine McKee scored eight points and Elizabeth Coletti added
five points. The scoring was rounded out by Lindsay Novesal and Kaylee
Woodward each having two points.
Crestwood scoring came from Andrea Mwando with seven points to lead
the Lady Cavs. Nia Burroughs had six points. Karla Villiacis put up
four points, while Ayanna Hawkins added three points. The scoring was
finished up by Ail Penn with two points.

Lancers came out with intense defensive
and were able to gain a huge lead in the first half which lasted
throughout the game. The lancers where led by Kassidy Farris with 12pts

Ballenger Creek 23 Oakdale 22
WOW!
WOW! WOW! What a game! Division One team Oakdale came into this game
ready to win. Division Three team Ballenger Creek came in looking for an
upset. After a grueling hour and forty-five minute game, Ballenger
Creek came out on top by one point, giving them a record of 8 - 0!
Oakdale
showed their skill and training by pressing Ballenger for the entire
game, creating many turnovers and making it more difficult for Ballenger
to get the ball in. Fortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, they were able
to work around it. Both teams played aggressively, fighting for the win
throughout the whole match. Once Ballenger got the lead, however, they
never gave it up, giving their all until the end.
Fouls
played a pivotal role in this game, with both teams committing many.
Neither team was able to do much with the foul shots, though, which
could have changed the whole game.
Ballenger
scorers were Brittany Clinedinst and Ruth Evans, each with seven
points, Sydney Clayton had three points, Makenzie Holston and Maddie
Mandich each contributed two points and Kelly Burns and Augusta Kamara
each added one.
Oakdale's
scoring was led by Selena Robinson with seven points, followed by Erin
Hoyle and Isabelle Ouimette with six points each. Chrissy Marshall
contributed two points and Danielle Harris put up one.

Oakdale Came to Ballenger Creek ready to play! From the start of
the game Oakdale pressed and created several turnovers and scoring off
of tem. Oakdale jumped out in front 13 to 6 in the first quarter. The
second quarter Oakdale kept the heat up on Ballenger and at the half
they were up 23 to 11.
The third quarter Oakdale added 11 more points to Ballenger's 5.
The fourth quarter Ballenger was trying to come back but the game
was just out of reach and Oakdale won 34 to 28! The high scorers
for Oakdale were #4 Sara Parnes with 8, #24 Kendall Ohm with 6 and #11
Emma Bowman tossed in 5. For Ballenger #22 Kim Hammond scored 12 and
Baily Easterday hit 3-3 point shots for 9 points!

JV: St. John's 28 South Hagerstown 15
In the Lady Rebels first home game after the holiday break the St. John's girls played tough full court pressure to take the early lead. The defensive pressure along with the outstanding rebounding of Meghan Carlson (#55) kept the St. John's girls in the lead through the end of the game. Carlson not only rebounded well but she also put the ball in the hoop. She was St. John's lead scorer with 10 points. Sarah Case (#25) and Brooke Taylor (#33) both contributed 6 points each. The Lady Rebels are continuing to learn how to play good team defense. Ebony Earl was the high scorer with 6 points. Emily Talbert chipped in with 3 points.
Varsity: South Hagerstown 50; St. John 9
South got out to a quick start in this matchup finishing the 1st 13-0. The second period was even both teams battling to only allow 5 points each. the score at the half was 18-5. South continued to fire away in the second half and the lead was just to much to catch up to. St. Johns was led in scoring by Hendi with 4, Butler had 3 and Brisbone with 2. Lindsey Bedregal Led South with 14, Jasmine Ballard with 12, Ayanna Small 9, Olivia Griffin 8, Keileen Estrada 5, and Hanna Loudin 2.
1/8/2012JV: Catoctin 21 North 14
The Catoctin JV Lady Cougars won their 5th straight
game by beating North Hagerstown 21-14. It was their first game after
the long layoff and it showed at times as the Cougars struggled to
score. North Hagerstown was very aggressive and forced many turnovers.
The Lady Cougar bench provided a great effort and gave the team the
spark it needed to take control of the game. Seven players scored;
Michaela Persinger, Emily Keller and Alexis Smith had 4 points each,
Brietta Latham had 3 points and Alexi Baumgardner, Carrie Reaver and
Lauren Drumheller had 2 points each. Ariel Jean-Jaques led North
Hagerstown with 6 points, Makaylia Fleetwood and Alyssa Waters each had 4
points. Persinger led the Cougars on the boards with 7 rebounds. The
Lady Cougars recorded 25 steals, led by Emily Keller with 8 and Alexis
Smith 6.

was able to move out to a early first qtr lead before north was able to
take over the lead in the first half and a even larger lead in the
second half. North was led by overall scorer Natalie Karlen with 13,
Sophie Abeles with 10, Javya Smiith with 4, Kirsten Searcy with 4,
Margaret Porter with 3, Claire Murray with 2, Anna Scheck with 2 and
Kelsea Frost with 1.
Catoctin was led by Hanna Gray with 7, Taylor Crum with 4, Morgan
Springer with 2, Megan Jenkins with 2, Emily Kuykendall with 2 and Ann
Marie Fostick with 1.

The St. Johns Vikings had a
tough loss against MSD on Sunday night. The final score was 37-24.
Lisa Kneebone (#11) led in defensive steals and contributed six (6)
points. Newcomer Brittany Fowler (#30) also contributed six (6) points in
a critical part of the fourth quarter. Sam Johnson (#20) contributed five
(5) points. Brooke Taylor (#33) added three (3) points. Meghan
Carlson dominated the boards and contributed two (2) points. Sara Case
(#25) covered MSD's toughest player decreasing her scoring while contributing
two (2) points of her own.
For MSD, Karita Lewis (#20) led the team with 13
points. Brooke Bonheyo (#21) and Eve Wood-Jacobowitz (#10) contributed
10 points each. Katilyn Weeks (#2) and Juliana Bahan (#4) contributed
two (2) points each. The Vikings look forward to a
rematch.

Urbana took a first quarter lead of 11
to 4. The lancers where able to come back by half to bring the score
to 15 to 10. The second half belonged to Urbana putting up 20 points in
the third quarter.
Urbana was able to cost to victory with
a strong fourth quarter. Urbana was led by Gaelin
Hirabayashi 17 pts and Kendall Bresee 11 pts. The lancers where led by
Jaqueline Mitchell 5 pts and
Karly Johnson, Elizabeth Schiller, Sophia
Heitzig each with 4pts.

TJ 24
From
the start TJ came out with a strong half court defense against
Middletown causing turnovers that keep the 1st quarter tight (M) 8-(TJ) 4
. Middletown turned on
the heat in the 2nd quarter by an unrelenting full court press, amazing
movement of the ball on offense and an aggressive man defense closing
the half 26-10. The determination was high in the second half for TJ to
get back into the game by taking outside shots
and driving the lane but to on avail. Middletown
continued the pressure and intensity to close the game at 39-24. High
scorer for Middletown was Leah Stup 12pts 6 rebounds, Katie Stottlemyer
11pts
3 rebounds, Kirsten Beckner 9pts 4 rebounds, Helen Holt 6pts 7 rebounds, Haven Brandenburg 2pts 3 rebounds and Lindsey Brant contributing 1pt. Aggressive defense and assists by Helen
Holt, Erin O'Conner, Shannon Duley, Hannah Sledzik, Alyssa
Arney and Brianna Crutchfield. High scorer for TJ was Forbes with
10pts, Weedon 9pts, Fausett 3pts and Morns with 2pts. It was a great
game played by all.

Varsity: Middletown 43 vs TJ 23
The first half showed both teams trying to figure
each other out. TJ was able to capitalize on fast breaks in the first
quarter scoring the first several baskets of the game. Middletown’s
pressure defense forced TJ to turn the ball over,
and Middletown converted quick points in the first half. TJ also
forced turnovers with is trapping half court defense. Middletown pulled

With the start of the second half Middletown continued its pressure and
extended their lead behind the game high scorer Peyton Weaver with 9

Middletown also had a nice scoring game from Alyssa
Klink who added 8 points. TJ also had scoring from Fatima Konare 5
points and Hannah Clingan 4 points.
JV: Poolesville 23 Crestwood 11
The Poolesville JV Girls opened up the New Year with a
23-11 win over Crestwood. Poolesville’s Delaney Cecco powered the Falcons to the
win with 13 points. Poolesville held the Lady Cavaliers scoreless in the second
period to key the victory. Hailey Khalil scored five for the home-standing
Falcons with Hannah Bush, Maddie Peyton, and Haley Harkins also scoring for
Poolesville. Crestwood picked up scoring from Cheri O’Brien, Alexis Toliver,
Elaja Demeza, and Olivya Johnson.

Crestwood’s Varsity Girls opened up a small lead and kept
Poolesville’s Varsity Girls at arm’s length the rest of the way in their 30-24
win over the Falcons. Ali Penn led the Lady Cavaliers with 14 points. Andreal
Mwando pitched in eight points in the win and Carla Villicis scored five.
Poolesville picked up 12 points from Karyn Comfort and four points from Casey
Harkins.
JV: South Hagerstown 12 Brunswick 38
The hot-shooting Lady Roaders scored the first 16 points of the game, en
route to a 30-6 halftime lead. The Lady Rebels played agressive defense
and made Brunswick work hard to get open shots. Makenzie Schnur led a
balanced Brunswick attack with 12 points, Olivia Heaton had 8, and Abby
Cole and Brittany Walker 6 each. The Lady Rebels were led by Ebony
Earl's 6 and Sirri Akaya's 4.”

Brunswick hosted South hagerstown in a Sunday afternoon contest and the fans were treated to a fast paced, well played game by both teams where defensive stops turned into many offensive opportunities. The game was close
throughout the first three quarters with South holding a 37-35 lead after three. South then took over outscoring Brunswick 18-6 in the final frame for the 55-41 victory. Both teams had balanced scoring.

out with out with alot of defensive intensity and was able to gain a
huge lead in the first half which lasted througthout the game. North
was led by overall scorer Margarget Porter with 9 followed by Kirsten
Searcy with 8, Natalie Karlen with 6, Anna Scheck with 5, Aliyha
Jackson with 5, Sophie Abeles with 4, Alexis Stoner with 3 and Kelsea
Frost with 2. Smithburg was led by Taryn Kershner with 6, Lexi Shinman

Varsity: Boonsboro 22 Linganore 20
The
Boonsboro Lady Warriors won a close, hard-fought low-scoring game
against Linganore. Linganore played quick and made some good transition
baskets early on, taking a quick advantage over Boonsboro in the first
quarter, outscoring them 8 - 2. Boonsboro picked up the pace in the
second quarter, with the halftime score being 12 - 8 in Linganore's
favor. Both teams played a tough defensive third quarter, scoring just 6
points each. Boonsboro opened up the scoring in the 4th quarter with 8
points compared to Linganore's 2 points. Boonsboro's Kaitlyn Ridenour
made her two foul shots in the last minute to break the tie, winning the
game 22 - 20.

Monocacy got out to an 8-0 and never looked back as they defeated

Balanced scoring and a big 29 point first half is all Monocacy
needed in defeating St John`s 50-10.Monocacy got 10 points from Mollie

JV: Crestwood 14 Urbana 20
In
a close game and a full 4 quarters of hard defense Urbana was able to
secure a win from Crestwood. The game was very tight for all 4 quarters
as the half time score was Urbana 9 and Crestwood 8. The Games leading
scorer was Crestwood’s Elaja Demeza with 9 followed by India Keene
adding 3, Urbana had two leading scorer’s with Cameron Mackintosh and
Alex Hutton both adding 6.

In a very competitive first half of
basketball led by the Lady Cav's stingy defense and good shooting the
game was very tight going into halftime.
Urbana took control of the game in the 3rd quarter outscoring Crestwood 22-10 and never looked back.
Crestwood
was led in scoring from Ali Penn with 11pts, Andrea Mwando 8pts, Karla
Villicias 6pts and Sydney Kaiser and Cheyanne Jackson chipping in 2pts
each.
Urbana was led in scoring by Gaelin H. with 16pts ,
Carryn Jurgens 13pts, Kendall Bresee with 11pts, Kelly McCarthy 6pts,
Katie Aquino 3pts. Hailey Taylor and Emma Watt each put in 2pts helping

Windsor Knolls 27, Oakdale 20
Turnovers and missed free throws proved
the difference in a physical contest Saturday afternoon. Windsor
Knolls used an effective full court trap to erase a 6-3 first quarter
deficit and take the lead for good in the second quarter. Ashleigh
Bonnano scored all of her game high 11 points for Windsor Knolls in the
decisive 2nd quarter. Oakdale continued to hang around in the second
half, continuously earning trips to the foul line, but never got closer
than four. Oakdale finished 3-18 from the line. Chrissy Marshall led
Oakdale with 7 points and Selena Robinson and Isabelle Ouimette both
chipped in with 4 each.
Varsity: Oakdale 41 Windsor Knolls 37
As expected, the Oakdale and Windsor Knoll's girls played a closely
contested, entertaining basketball game. In a back and forth first
half, the half ended with the score Windsor Knolls 22 - Oakdale 20. The
game remained close with Windsor Knolls sitting on a 33-30 lead with
less than two minutes to play. Oakdale applied a ferocious full court
press and was able to force Windsor Knolls into numerous turnovers.
Caroline Jaworski was clutch at the free throw line at the end of the
game, hitting 3 out of 4 shots. The pressure and foul shooting resulted
in a 41-37 victory for the home team. Emma Bowman led the Oakdale girls
with 18 points with Kendall Ohm, Amber Albrecht, and Sara Parnes
contributing 6, 5 and 5 points respectively.
Regan Lohr paced the Windsor Knolls girls with 16 points and Madeline Cederdahl added 11 for the visiting team.

JV: Middletown 26 Walkersville 30
The
Walkersville JV Lady Lions returned to the court after a long Holiday
break to take on their Rivals the Middletown Knights. After a strong
defensive showing by both teams for the entire
game and Middletown holding Walkersville to only 2 points in the 3rd
quarter, the Lady Lions prevailed 30-26 to improve to 5-0 for the
season. Walkersville trailed Middletown 21-19 going into the 4th
quarter, but after a huge 3 pointer by Maddie
Hommey and great Foul shooting from Carlie Hopkins Walkersville was
able to outscore Middletown 11-5 to pull out a victory.
Walkersville was led by Maddie Hommey with 9 points and 6
rebounds, Carlie Hopkins added 7 points and 7 boards. Walkersvilles
other scorers were Taylor Diggs 6 points, Claire Kotchenreuther 4.

Walkersville was host to Middletown on Thursday night and in front of a packed gymnasium, the Lady Lions prevailed with a 46-40 victory. The Knights came outon a 7-0 run to start the game, and finished the first quarter with a 17-11 lead. The Lady Lions made adjustments and went into half tied at 24. The 2nd half saw both teams play hard and battle to the end. The game was decided in the last minute as the Lady Lions were able to capitalize on good free throw shooting by their guards MacKenzie White and McKenzie Mathis who converted on 4 straight free throws to put Walkersville on top.
Middletown was lead in scoring by Paige Torleton 15 points,Rileedshaw 8 pts, Emma Stokes 5 pts, Ana Breanerigen and Peyton Weaver each had 4 and Lauren Keeney and Alyssa Klink both had 2 pts. Walkersville was
lead by Ana Taylor 10 pts, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and MacKenzie White also with 10 points to go along with 5 assists. Also contributing were McKenzie Mathis with 9 pts and a game high 7 assists, Megan Dusci 9 pts, Shelby Williams 4 pts,

Walkersville JV Lady Lions used another strong defensive showing
tonight to improve their record to 4-0 with a win over visiting Urbana
36-18. The Lions were
lead by Carlie Hopkins with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Maddie Hommey
contributed with 9 points, 4 steals, and 6 rebounds. Taylor Diggs
grabbed a game high 10 rebounds. Urbana was lead by S. Miller with 6

The
Urbana Hawks defeated the Walkersville Lions in an exciting game
Tuesday night at Walkersville Middle School. The Lions kept the Hawks
off balance during
the first half and held them to just 14 points. The Lady Hawks made a
great halftime adjustment and started fast in the 2nd half. Two three pointers by Gaelin Hirabayashi helped to jump start the Hawks to victory. The visitors were led by Kendall
Bresee with 16 points and Hirabayashi who contributed 14 all in the 2nd half. Walkersville was led by Ana Taylor with 18 points and 4 steals. McKenzie Mathis had 9 assists for the Lions.

JV: Middletown 31 South Hagerstown 18
Middletown played full court defense from the beginning of the game making it very difficult for the Lady Rebels to advance the ball. Middletown was
able to force some turnovers with their defensive pressure which led to fast break points. The leading scorer for the Middletown Knights was B.
Crutchfield with 8 points. K. Beckner added 5 points. Both L. Brant and H. Ottenritter chipped in with 4 points. The South Hagerstown Lady Rebels
continue to play tough defense from the first buzzer to the final buzzer. For the Lady Rebels Kaitlyn Wolfe scored her first 3 pointer and had a total
of 7 points. Sirri Akaya contributed with 5 points.
Varsity: Middletown 34 South Hagerstown 25
On Monday night Middletown traveled to Hagerstown to play the Lady Rebels. The game started out very close with both sides playing aggressive defense.
the first period ended 4-5 Knights with the slight lead. In the second period both sides were able to score a little more however the knights were
able to extend their lead by 3 more going in to the half with a 16-12 lead. In the 3rd period the Knights were able to extend their lead by 5 more with
a six points from Breadshaw and 4 from Keeney. Ultimately the Rebels could not make up the difference and the game ended 34-29. in favor of the
Knights. Leading the scoring for Middletown was R. Bradshaw with 12 and P. Tarleton with 10. For the Rebels Lindsey Bedregal had 13 and Ayanna Small
added 6.

JV: Smithsburg:27 North Hagerstown: 24
Smithsburg trailed most of the game but battled back to
come out on top for the win. Faith Bruchey and Erica Lindsay scored
eight points each for the Lady Leopards. Micaela Fleetwood led North on
both offense and defense. She tallied nine points and played an
aggressive defense causing many turnovers.

North started strong and never looked back with Natalie Karlen scoring seventeen points.
JV: Catoctin 16 West Frederick 7The
JV Lady Cougars won their fourth straight game by defeating West
Frederick 16-7 on Sunday. West Frederick jumped out to a 6-0 first
quarter lead and led 6-2 at halftime. The Lady Cougars came out in the
second half with some fire and swarming defense and outscored West
Frederick 8-0 in the third period and 6-1 in the fourth to gain the
victory. Michaela Persinger and Alexis Smith led the scoring attack
with 6 points each. Persinger also led the team with 7 rebounds and had
4 steals. Camryn Skowronski had 6 rebounds and 2 points. Emily Keller
had 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 points.
Gabby Fratantuono led West Frederick with 3 points.
Varsity: Catoctin 33 vs. West Frederick 42
West Frederick visited Catoctin on Sunday afternoon and came away with a 42-33 victory. The visitors quickly jumped out to a 11-0 lead but the Lady Cougars battled back to cut the deficit to 4 early in the fourth quarter but West Frederick who was led in scoring by Darlene King with 12 and Dahah Gee with 9
had to much and held off the comeback for the win. Hannah Gray led the cougars with 12 and had a huge effort on the boards along with Morgan Tracy.
JV: St. John's 24, Clear Spring

After a difficult loss on
Saturday, the St. Johns Vikings picked up a 24-11 win over the Clear
Spring Blazers. Sarah Case (#25), Paula Hirshorm (#12), and newcomer Sam
Johnson (#20) lead the team with six points each. Lisa Kneebone (#11)
contributed four points to the team and Meghan Carlson (#55) added two points.
Sarah Case (#25) and Meghan Carlson (#55) dominated the the boards.
Brooke Taylor (#33) lead in assists, especially in the offensive inbound
plays. Satreen Hendi (#22) defensively broke up several plays leading to
fast breaks for the Vikings.
The Clear Spring Blazers put up a good fight. Hannah B

quarter, the Lady Vikings were able to pull away from the Blazers in a very
physical game. St John's went on an 21-2 run to defeat Clear Spring by a
score of 29-7. The Lady Vikings had well balanced scoring. They were
led by Alexis Ogren (#53) with 8 points. Maddie Abel (#21) and Julie
Brisbane (#10) had 6 points each while Tara Butler (#24) chipped in with 5
points. Clio Kerr (#42) led all players with 10 rebounds and Jessica
Loveless (#24) played outstanding defense. Clear Spring was led in
scoring by Savannah Mills (#31) with 4 points and Emily Leone (#24) with 2
points. In addition, Lindsay Carlin (#5) and Jordan Garwood (#13) played
tough defense for the Blazers.
JV: Monocacy 31 Brunswick 28
This was an exciting game that saw several lead changes and Brunswick miss chances to tie the game in the final seconds. Brunswick
led 8-2 before Monocacy made a big run to take a 11-10 half-time lead.
Led by Taylor Stafford, Monocacy extended its lead to 9 mid-way through
the third quarter before Brunswick scored 10 straight to lead 22-21
heading into the fourth. Monocacy was led by Stafford’s 11 points, while
Taqia Rollins added 8 and Jessie Hoult 6. Abby Cole led Brunswick’s
balanced attack with 6 and Olivia Heaton chipped in with 5. Point guard
Erin Davis did a great job handling Monocacy’s pressure and had no
turnovers.

Monocacy jumped out to a commanding 25-3 half- time lead
with balanced scoring as they had eight different players score in the contest.
Brunswick made a late comeback scoring 17 second half points, but was too much
of an uphill battle. Final score had Monocacy winning the contest 43-20.

The WKMS JV girls defeated the Middletown JV team with a score of 29 to
17. It was a very physical game and both teams battled. The middletown
girls played hard throughout the game. They were led in points by
Kirsten and Leah each with 4 points and Helen scored 3 points and had
multiple blocked shots. The WKMS girls were led in rebounding by Tara
and had 4 girls score 6 or more points each.
Varsity: Windsor Knolls 27 Middletown 24
The well
coached and disciplined Middletown Knights came to Urbana High School
and gave Windsor Knolls all they could handle. The teams played to a
15-15 tie the first half and both came out in the second half with
strong game plans and focused, passionate play. This was a very hard
fought, well played game by both teams. Middletown was led by strong
inside play by Rilee Bradshaw with 12 points, leading all scorers.
Windsor Knolls balanced attack was led by Madeline Cederdahl with 7
point, Chris McKee with 6 points and strong defense and rebounding, and
Elizabeth Coletti and Regan Lohr chipped in 6 points each.
JV: Springfield 49 Boonsboro 7
Springfield's pressure
defense created several turnovers helping them jump out to a 16-2 lead
by the end of the first quarter. Lexie Robinson scored 6 of
Springfield's 16 points in the quarter. Springfield had nine girls score
in all, led by Jazmine Yost's 10 points. Lexie Robinson and Diva Bowman
each chipped in 8 points, while Madison Riley added 7 points, and
Cassie Lavin 6 points. Eryn McVicker and Hanna Moser spearheaded
Springfield's defense. Boonsboro was led in scoring by Hannah Knight
with 3 points.
Varsity: Springfield 24 Boonsboro 37
From the start
Boonsboro played with emotion hustling for loose balls and hitting the
boards. This enabled the Lady Warriors to build a an early lead.
Springfield started to find their rhythm midway through the 2nd quarter
and cut the Boonsboro lead to 1 at the half (11-10). In the second half,
Boonsboro began to execute their half court offense building a 20-15
lead by the end of the 3rd period. Springfield made one late run, but
Boonsboro was able to put the game away with some clutch free throws
down the stretch. Boonsboro had a balanced attack led by Ridenour with 9
points followed by Coulter and Sikes with 6 points each. Kate Wade and
Olivia Coleman each scored 5 points for Springfield.
JV: Oakdale 39 Urbana 31In
a game of two halves the first half was dominated by strong full court
pressure and strong man-man defense by Oakdale leading to a half time
score of Oakdale 18 and Urbana 8. During the second half Urbana began
to apply some strong pressure defense to create some turn overs and to
bring the score to within 4 with a few minutes left to go. In the end
Oakdale was able to bring the game to a strong close winning 39 to 31.
Game leading score was Isabelle Ouimette with 13, followed closely by
Selena Robinson with 11 and Erin Hoyle adding 7. For Urbana the leading
scorer was Jana Haas with 8 followed by Alex Hutton with 6 and
Stephanie Miller adding 5.
Varsity: Urbana 33 Oakdale 32
In yet another battle between these two teams that has continued over the past 2 years Urbana pulled out a 1 point victory.
Oakdale controlled most of the game but Urbana was able to keep the score within 2 points the entire game.
In the 4th quarter Urbana took its first lead of the game with some quick fast break points from Gaelin Hirabayashi.

This contest was pretty much decided in the first quarter, with
Williamsport running out to a command first quarter lead. They never
looked back as the loss knocked last years 2nd place JR Hubs to 1-4, on the

game was a tough defensive battle, with each team causing multiple turn
overs. The Lady Cadets won the first period 8 - 0 and finished the
contest 18 - 9. High scorer for the Lady Lancers was Jessica Mitchell
with 3 points and Monet Wade for the Lady Cadets with 9 points.

JV: Clear Spring 28 Boonsboro 19
The final score of the JV
game was Clear Spring 28, Boonsboro 19. The game was much closer than the final
score indicated. The home Warriors led 14-8 at halftime and 19-16 after 3rd
quarter but wore down in 4th quarter as Clear Spring's full court
man-to-man defense finally got to the shorthanded Warriors who were missing 3
players and ended up finishing the game with just 4 on the court because of
foul trouble. Leading scorers for Warriors were Sara Bittinger with 9 and Abby
Harrah with 4 points. Leading the way for Clear Spring was Bowers with 15 and
Bender with 5.
Varsity: Clear Spring 10 Boonsboro 35
The Lady
Warriors hosted Clear Spring, and won 35 - 10. Boonsboro jumped out to a
quick lead in the first quarter, finishing 15 - 4. By halftime the score
was 26 - 6, with a 3-point shot made by Jillian Tucker at the buzzer.
Clear Spring came out in the second half with a tough defense, holding the Lady
Warriors to only 5 points and 4 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters, respectively.

In
a rematch from the previous week, the Lady Bulldogs extended their
winning streak to six games. The first half of the game remained fairly
close, with a score of 18 - 7. In the second half, the Bulldog defense
was able to slow St. John's offense, while the Bulldog offense added
more points. Both teams moved the ball around quickly and forced some
good steals.
High
scorers for Ballenger Creek were Ruth Evans with twelve points,
Makenzie Holston with eight points and Marley Tierney and Sydney
Clayton, each with six points.
For
St. John's Sam Johnson scored four points, Lisa Kneebone and Paula

The two teams met up for the second time in less then a week.
Ballenger started off with a 7 to 2 point lead after the first period!
Saint John's roared back in the second period both teams were about even
with the scoring and Ballenger went into the half with a 9 point lead
24 to 15. The third period Saint John's out scored Ballenger 10 to 9 but

After a close first quarter,Walkersville was able to pull away and
defeat Monocacy 34-14.The winners got a game high 12 points from Maddi
Hommey with Carlie Hopkins adding six points.Monocacy got 6 points from
Michaela Joannides.
Varsity: Monocacy 35 - Walkersville 34
In a fantastic game that was physical and well played by both
teams,Monocacy squeaked out a 35-34 win over Walkersville.The first half
was a defensive battle with the Lions leading 12-9.The second half the
offense heated up by both teams with Walkersville`s Mckenzie Mathis
nailing four three pointers,and Monocacy`s Tyrae Byrd hitting a three
pointer to tie it after three quarters.Walkersville took a four point
lead in the fourth only to have Byrd nail another three and then sink
two fouls shots with less than a minute to give Monocacy the
win.Monocacy got 11 points from Tyrae Byrd,and six points each from
Makenna McSweeney,Tanaisia Jow,and Mollie McSweeney.Walkersville got a
game high 17 points from McKenzie Mathis,Anastasa Taylor with nine
points,including five for five at the free throw line,and six points
from Megan Dusci.
JV: Poolesville 38 Thomas Johnson 18
The Falcons used a strong second half to propel them to a 20 point win
at TJ. Poolesville lead 17-12 at the break but TJ closed the 19-17 with
3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter. The Falcons pressure defense
and scrappy point guard Hailey Khalil scored 6 quick points to push the
lead to 8 and never looked back. Delaney Cecco lead all scoters with 14
points. The Patriots were lead Madison Ondo and Chante Weedon with 6
apiece.
Thursday 12/15/2011JV: Poolesville 32 Brunswick 21
The Poolesville JV Girls used a fourth quarter burst to
push past Brunswick’s JV Girls on a rare Thursday night doubleheader in
Poolesville. The Falcons broke open a close game by extended a three-point lead
at the end of three to win by a final score of 32-21. Delaney Cecco (game high
10 points) and Samme Mullikin (eight points) combined to score 14 points in the
final period to blow the game open for the Falcons. Hailey Khalil handed off
five assists in addition to scoring her five points in the Poolesville win.
Brunswick’s Olivia Heaton hit for seven points to lead the Lady Railroaders.
Teammates Brittney Walker and Mackenzie Schnur pitched in four points
each.
JV: Poolesville 34 Brunswick 20
The Poolesville Varsity Girls pressed their way to an
early advantage and held serve the rest of the way, including holding the
Railroaders scoreless in the fourth period, in their 34-20 victory over
Brunswick. Casey Harkins pushed the Falcons early scoring eight of her ten
points in the first half. Allie Nevius took over from there scoring six of her
eight points in the second half. Breanne Hall chipped in seven points for
Poolesville. Brunswick picked up strong games from Alicia Coats (seven points)
and Grace Heaton (six points). Knicki Bergman added three points to the
Brunswick total.
JV: Crestwood 13 Walkersville 31
Walkersville
JV opened up their home schedule with a victory over visiting Crestwood
by the score of 31 – 13. The Lady Lions were led by Carlie Hopkins
with
16 points and 6 offensive rebounds. Maddie Hommey contributed 5
points and pulled down a game high 12 rebounds. Crestwood was lead in
the scoring column by India Keene who had 6 points.
Varsity: Walkersville 51 Crestwood 31
The Walkersville Lady Lions hosted their first game Thursday evening
against Crestwood. After a back and forth first half, which ended in a
tie 14 all, The Lions erupted for 37 second half points and went on to
win 51 to 31. Walkersville was lead by Ana Taylor
who finished with 15 pts and 3 steals, McKenzie Mathis who finished
with 10 pts, 7 rebounds and 2 assist and Megan Dusci netted 9 points.
Aurianna Johnson added 7 rebounds and MacKenzie White lead the Lions
with 4 assists. Crestwood was lead by Andrea Mwando
who had 11 points.
JV: Clear Spring 13 vs. MSD 51
MSD visited Clear Spring and broke out to an early 14-2 lead. MSD’s point guard Eve Wood-Jacobowitz led her team with 12 first half points and 16 for the game. Tamia H. and Karita L. contributed 10 and 8 points respectively for MSD. MSD balanced out the scoring as all players on the team scored. Clear Spring struggled against the aggressive MSD defense that held the Blazers to just 13 points for the game. In South Hagerstown's second home game, West Frederick's speed and outside shooting was very difficult for the South Hagerstown Lady Rebels to defend.
West Frederick had a balanced attack with 6 girls scoring. Both Monet W and Gabby F scored 8 points. Krysten L added 6 and Tatyanna W and Julia S both
contributed 5 points. Even though South Hagerstown was not able to overcome the very significant lead from the first half the Lady Rebels hustled and
played tough defense to the very end of the game. Taylor Morgan was the high scorer for South Hagerstown with 3 points.
Varsity: West Frederick 45; South 37
West Frederick traveled to Hagerstown to compete against The Lady Rebels. The first half was a battle on both sides of the court. W. Frederick was
able to take a sight lead into the half finishing the half at 19-16. In the Third period the Cadets outscored the Rebels 13-4 giving them a sizable 12
point lead and a little room to breathe. However the Rebels would not go away easily, after trailing by as much as 16 points they were able to go on
a late period rally to bring the score within 8. Ultimately there was not enough time left on the clock for the Lady Rebels to make their come back.
Rebels were led in scoring by Lindsey Bedregal who netted 19, Olivia Griffin with 6, Ansleigh Tennant 5, Eletria Herbert 4, and Ayanna Small with 3. For
the Cadets Gee and Wamley each had 10, King 8, Haggood 7, Grant 6, and Dollar rounded it out with 4.

Springfield
jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the 1st quarter, and won at
Linganore. Springfield had ten girls score in the game led by Cassie
Lavin's 10 points, and Kaitlin Murphy's 8 points, while Eryn McVicker
and Madison Riley chipped in 5 points apiece. Linganore was led in
scoring by Olivia Wolfe's 5 points.
Varsity: Springfield 30 Linganore 32
In a game that came down to the buzzer the lancers where able to hold on to a 32 to 30 win.
Springfieldt where led by a strong shooting performance from Kate Wade who put up 19 points and Page Young with 5.
The Lancers where Led by Sophia Heitzig with 15 points and Libby Schiller with 7 points.
JV: St. John's 20 Ballenger Creek 48
St. Johns
Vikings had a tough loss against the Ballenger Creek Bulldogs,
losing 48-20. The Vikings learned several things that can be
improved upon and are going to be ready to face the Bulldogs in their next
meeting. Brooke Taylor (#33) was the St. John's MVP, leading the Vikings
with six points and steals. Lisa Kneebone (#11) contributed five points
and hit her first three pointer of the season. Meghan Carlson (#55) added
four points to the team and had several offensive rebounds. Sarah Case
(#25) led the team in defensive rebounds and contributed two points. Paula
Hirshorm (#12) had two points and several steals in the fourth quarter.

Ballenger Creek started out slow, but came back and beat St. John's 35-16.
The Lady Vikings jumped out to a quick 7-0 start, but Paige Holston
led Ballenger Creek back to close the gap to 11-9 at the half.
Ballenger Creek had a balanced offense as 6 different players scored.
They were led by Paige Holston(#10) and Kim Hammonds(#22) who each had 9
points. Bailey Easterday (#25) had 5 points and Jillian Aeal (#24) and
Megan Forte (#43) both had 4 points. St. John's was led in scoring by
Alexis Ogren(#53) and Julie Brisbane (#10) who each had 6 points.
Maddie Abel (#21) had 4 points and played outstanding defense as did

JV: Boonsboro 19 South Hagerstown 11Th

Boonsboro JV Team won their home opener against South Hagerstown with a
score of 19 – 11. High scorers for the Boonsboro Lady Warriors were
Abby Harrah with 5 points, and Taylor Strawser and Emily Holmes with 4
points each. Lady Rebel high scorers were Katlin Wolfe with 6 points,
and Sirri Akaya with 5 points.Varsity: Boonsboro 30 South Hagerstown 34
In
Boonsboro’s home opener, the Lady Warriors fought back tough but still
came up short in the end, losing to the South Hagerstown Lady Rebels by 4
points. The Lady Rebels jumped out to a quick lead in the first
quarter, 11 – 2, on 9 points of Lindsey Bedregal’s, 6 of which were on 3
point shots. The second quarter was a more evenly played match, which
led to a halftime score of 18 – 10. The Lady Warriors came out tough
and physical in the second half, outscoring the Lady Rebels 13 – 7 with
the score 25 – 23 at the end of the third quarter. However, the Rebels
proved to be too much for the Warriors in the home stretch, and the 3
point shot by Ansleigh Tennant sealed the deal. Final score 34 – 30.
Scorers for the Lady Warriors were Sydney Stotler 12; Sydney Alexander,
Allyson Sikes, and Ashley Oakes with 4 points each; Kamilla Miller,
Kaitlyn Ridenour, and Jillian Tucker with 2 points each. Scorers for
the Lady Rebels were Lindsey Bedregal with 18; Ansleigh Tennant with 4
points; Herbert, Loudin, Griffin, Small, Ballard, and Domer each with 2

JV: Poolesville 35 Middletown 30
After 3 quarters of intense competition, Poolesville entered the 4th down by 1 but rallied in the final minutes to top Middletown 35-30.
The Knights dominated early, led by powerful forward Helen Holt who scored 9 points in the 1st quarter to put Middletown up 16-8. But a
quick and aggressive Poolesville team fought their way back and capitalized on several forced turnovers in the final minutes to secure
the victory.
Poolesville was led by lightening quick guard Hailey Khalk who scored 18 points, and Delaney Cello who contributed 14. Maddie Pexton and
Sammy Mullikin also scored for Poolesville. For the Knights, Holt finished with 13 points, Helena Ottenritter 4, Briana Crutchfield 4,
and Katie Stottlemyer, Leah Stup, Haven Brandenburg, and Kirsten Beckner each scored 2. Hannah Sledzik added a foul shot and grabbed 7
rebounds. Erin O’Connor added 2 rebounds. Guards Lindsey Brantt, Alyssa Arney, and Shannon Duley handled the ball extremely well,
combining for only 2 turnovers the entire game.
Varsity: Middletown 43 vs Poolesville 28
Middletown girls finally played a complete game
this season. Poolesville was very aggressive in the first half matching
Middletown, going into halftime tied 17-17 behind the scoring of Casey
Harkins with 7 points. Middletown came out
aggressive in the second half with their press. Rilee Bradshaw led the
Knights with 11 points. The knights also got a spark from Sarah Hall
with a couple of jumpers and a 3 pointer. Poolesville also had scoring
from Karyn Comfort and Mollie Bodmer with
6 points each. Paige Tarleton led the press forcing turnovers and also
chipping in 9 points.
JV : TJ 24 Urbana 19
In a close back and forth game of good defense TJ and Urbana played pressure defense with TJ jumping to a quick lead after 1st
quarter 7 to 4 and then a hard fought Urbana come back to within 1 by
half time with a score of TJ 9 Urbana 8. During the second half TJ
opened up a lead with strong 3 point shooting by Jana Faucett making 4
from beyond the arc during the game. Urbana was able to close the lead
to only 2 with a few minutes left in the game but was unable to take the
lead. Game scoring was led by TJ’s Jana Faucett with 14 pts, followed
by Brianna Forbes with 6 pts. and Chante Weedon add 4. Urbana was led
in scoring by Jana Haas with 9 pts, Alex Hutton 4pts, Stephanie Miller 4
pts, and Caitlin Shepherd 2 pts.Varsity: Urbana 35 TJ 14
In
a game all about defense Urbana played pressure defense led by Carryn
Jurgens, Kendall Bresee and Kelly McCarthy creating turnovers and
converting them into fast break points. TJ never gave up and continued
to play strong throughout the game led by Abbie Stitley with strong
physical inside play and good team rebounding from Raeshean Simmons,
Taja Gordan, Alyssa Handlemann and Fatima Gordah.
Urbana was
led in scoring by Kendall Bresee with 22 pts, Carryn Jurgens 4pts,
Hailey Taylor 4pts, Katie Aquino 3pts and Kelly McCarthy chipped in
2pts.
TJ was led by Abbie Stitlely with 4pts, Raeshean Simmons 4pts, Fatima Konare 4pts and Sarah Rouch 2pts.

Oakdale used a withering full court press to open up what
had been a first quarter defensive struggle on the way to a 30-21 victory in
their home opener. Neither team could
gain an advantage in a first quarter that saw both teams employ aggressive full
court man-to-man defense. However a
sizable rebounding and turnover advantage helped the Eagles shut down Middletown’s offense and expand
a two point first quarter lead to 14-3 by the half. Middletown’s
scoring drought continued until the four minute mark of the third quarter. By that point, the Eagle’s had built a 16
point advantage. Using aggressive drives
to the basket earning a number of trips to the foul line, Oakdale’s Chrissy
Marshall paced all scoring with 10 points to go with 4 steals. Erin Hoyle added four points and led the
Eagle’s frontcourt with five of the
teams nine blocked shots. Kirsten
Beckner led Middletown’s
scoring with 9 points.
Using a balanced scoring attack and a 13-1 first quarter
run, Oakdale built an 18-3 halftime lead on the way to a 43-7 home victory over
Crestwood.

Kate Perez and Selena Robinson paced the Eagles with 8 points each.

Oakdale played host to Crestwood on Sunday afternoon. It was a low
scoring first quarter with a lot of defensive pressure resulting in a
slim Oakdale lead of 3-2. The defensive battle continued with Crestwood
taking a 9-8 lead into the half. The lead flipped again at the end of
the third quarter with Oakdale leading 17-16. In the fourth quarter,
Oakdale built a six point lead but Crestwood battled back to make it a
close finish of 32-30. Emma Bowman led Oakdale with 12 points, Rachel
Bower scored 8 and Caroline Jaworksi contributed 4. Kendall Ohm snagged 6
rebounds with Emma Bowman grabbing 5. Amber Albrecht had three steals
for Oakdale. Crestwood was led in scoring by Karla Villacas with 11
points and Ali Penn with 9 points.

In
the opening game of the season for Urbana the Hawks lost to WKMS in a
good competitive matchup. Windsor Knolls led Urbana at half time by 3
points in a very close half of play. In the second half Windsor Knolls
extended there lead with excellent shooting from Regan Lohr and good
team ball movement. Windsor Knolls was led in scoring by Regan Lohr with
18 points, Madeline Cederdahl 8pts, Christine McKee 6pts, Hannah Mills
5pts and Kiley Cross pitching in 2pts. Urbana was led in scoring by
Carryn Jurgens with 10 pts, Olivia Madaras 5pts, Hailey Taylor 4pts,
Katie Aquino 3pts and Jessica Affable pitching in 2.
JV: Clear Spring 24 North Hagerstown 20
Clear Spring JV played host to the North Hagerstown JV on December
10, 2011. The game was a tightly contested battle with both teams
playing tough defense. Clear Spring took an early lead but North
battled back to make it a one possession game at the half. The teams
matched each other with baskets in the second half and it was a one
point game late into the fourth quarter. Clear Spring pulled away with a
four point lead and held on to this margin down the stretch despite
some tenacious defense by North.
Hannah Bowers and Ashley Ardinger of Clear Spring led all scorers
with 7and 5 points respectively, while teammates Madeline Buchanan, Jill
Bender and Madison Ammons each had four points. North was lead by
Alyssa Waters and Sarah Amalfitano both with four points. North had 7
girls contribute to the scoring.

halftime lead. Oakdale applied suffocating defense holding the Knights
to only 4 points in the 3rd Quarter while building the lead to 27-18.
However, there was no quit in the Knights as they rallied to make the
game tight in the final minutes and only a basket separated the two
teams as the buzzer went off. The defensive star of the game was Amber
Albrecht with 5 steals. Emma
Bowman led all scorers with 10 points. Sara Parnes and Kendall Ohm
chipped in with 6 and 5 points, respectively. The Knights had well
balanced scoring too (led by Paige Tarleton 6, Rilee Bradshaw 5, Emma
Stokes 5, and Lauren Keeny 5 points).

opened up their season with a nice win on the road at TJ, 32-21. After
trailing 2-0, the Lions lead the rest of the way during a very tight
game. Walkersville held a 2 point lead after 1 and pushed it out to 5
at the intermission. In the 3rd quarter things stayed tight as the
Patriots closed to within 2 but could never tie. The Lions methodically
pulled away in the final stanza for the 11 point win. TJ's Chante
Weedon lead all scorers with 12, while Maddi Hommey scored 10 and Taylor
Starr added 8 second half points for the Lions.

JV: Catoctin 25 vs. Linganore 13
The
JV Cougars played an excellent first half and jumped out to a 17-3 lead
at the half. They survived a sloppy second half to win 25-13 over a
scrappy Linganore team. Michaela Persinger had a great game and led the
team with 7 points and 12 rebounds. Alexis Smith had a good all around
game with 6 points, 11 rebounds and 9 steals. Carrie Reaver set the
tone with her defense and contributed with 4 points, 4 steals and 6
assists. Elizabeth Gaudlip led the Lancers with 5 points.
Varsity: Catoctin 20 vs. Linganore 26
Linganore
visited Catoctin for a Friday night match up and came away with a 26-20
victory over the Lady Cougars. The Lady Cougars made a run in the
fourth quarter to make it close but the Lancers controlled most of the
game with tough defense that made it tough for the Cougars to score.
Linganore was led in scoring by Heitzig and Mitchell with five
apiece. Taylor Crum led Catoctin with seven points and Morgan Springer
gave a great defensive boost for the Cougars in the second half.
Tuesday 12/6/2011JV: Middletown 19 vs. Monocacy 25
In
Middletown’s second game of the season they were defeated by Monocacy 19-25. The start was very slow for the
Middletown girls due to several turnovers
and Mononcay’s aggressive full court press. The score was 7-13 at the
half, however, things heated up in the 2nd half with
Middletown scoring 12pts, but they were
unable to pull it out at the end. High scorer for Middletown was Helen
Holt with 8pts followed by Hannah Sledzik scoring 4pts, Kirsten Beckner,
Katie Stottlemyer
and Helena Ottenritter with 2pts and Leah Stup with 1pt. Monocacy’s
high scorer was Taylor Stafford with 10 pts, followed by Julia Jacobs
with 7pts, Jessie Titus with 4pts and Morgan Mcagaha and Michaela
Joannides with 2pts. Great game played by all.

Monocacy started slow but once they got in stride they were able to hold
off Middletown, 32-26. Monocacy was led by Tyrae Byrd and Mollie
McSweeney 10 and 9 points. Middletown was led by Paige Tarleton and
Emma Stokes with 10 and 8 points.
Monday 12/5/2011Varsity: Linganore 35; South 34
The Linganore Lancers traveled to Hagerstown to compete against The Lady Rebels in a hard fought match up. The first half was notted up until the
Lancers pulled away slightly to take a 17-13 point lead into the half. In the second half the Lancers were able to pull away to a 23-16 lead, however
the Rebels did not give up they fought back to tie the game at 32 with under 2 minutes to play. The Lancers were able to sink 3 free throws to increase
the lead by 3, with 10 seconds left Morgan Domer was able to steal and pass the ball however the Rebels were only able to net 2 points. Ending the game
with a final score of 35-34. It was a hard fought game that was very exciting. Sophia Heitzig led the Lancers with 18 Points, Tanner Ridgely and
Elizabeth Schiller added 5 each. For the Rebels Lindsey Bedregal 12 points and Hanna Loudin 11 points led the scoring, Olivia Griffin added 4.
JV: Linganore 21; South 5
In South Hagerstown's first home game, Linganore dominated the Lady Rebels with a score of 21-5. Scoring was distributed between multiple Linganore
players. Seven players for Linganore scored. Eddins and Specht were the high scorers with 4 points each. The Lady Rebels tightened the defense in
the second half but were unable to overcome the large deficit in scoring. Kaitlin Wolfe scored all 5 points for the Lady Rebels. Both teams played
hard and hustled the entire game.

Varsity: N. Hagerstown 33; Saint John's 26
N. Hagerstown and St. John's met for a second time this season
and N. Hagerstown came out on top 33-26 in an exciting OT game. The Hubs
jumped out to a commanding 16-7 lead at half time, but The Lady Vikings fought
hard to get back in the game. With 1 second left in regulation, Clio Kerr
of St. John's, sank a jumpshot to send the game into OT.

At their second meeting N. Hagerstown pulled out a 18-16 win
over the St. John's Vikings. The game was neck and neck throughout the
entire game. Before the first half ended, Brooke Taylor (33) worked hard
to get the ball into point guard Paula Hirshorm (12). With seconds on the
clock, she worked the ball in the paint to Sarah Case (25) who put up 2 points
to take the lead at the half. For most of the second half the game was
tied and with seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, N. Hagerstown put
up 2 points to win the game. Paula Hirshorm (12) led the Vikings with 8
points and assists. Sarah Case (25) followed with 4 points and led the
team in turnovers. Lisa Kneebone (11) and Brooke Taylor (33) each
contributed 2 points. Megan Carlson (55) led the team in rebounds.
For N. Hagerstown, Miranda F. (13) and Arielle Jean-Jacques (25) led the team with 4 points
each. Maggie C. (12), Kamaja G. (22), Nikita Johnson (23), and Kaithlyn C. (32) each
contributed 2 points. The Vikings are looking forward to facing N.
Hagerstown again as each meeting is an intense competition.

Ballenger Creek 35 Smithsburg 16
In a game
that was much closer than the score indicates, the Lady Bulldogs worked hard
for their third victory in a row. Smithsburg's defense had Ballenger working
hard for every point, forcing them to move the ball around more. This allowed
ten of the Ballenger players to contribute to the winning score.
Top scorers
were Kelly Burns, Marley Tierney, and Makenzie Holston, each with eight points.

It was Ballenger Creek Lady Bulldog's second home game and
Smithsburg was the visiting team. The first period started out slow,
with neither team scoring for about the first three minute. Then
Ballenger kicked in to a 14 to 1 run. By half time the score was 28 to 3
in favor of Ballenger Creek. The second half Ballenger Creek added 24
more points and finished with 52. Smithsburg added 6 more points with
their game total of 9. The lead scorers for Ballenger were the Dynamic
Duo, Captains Kim Hammond with 17 and Paige Holston with 15. Followed by
Megon Forte with 8. The leading scores for Smithsburg were # 23 L.

JV: Catoctin 34 Clear Spring 10
After an ice cold first half the Cougars
starting making some shots in the second half to pull away from the Blazers. It was a great team effort as all players recorded multiple steals and rebounds. Seven different players scored, led by Emily Keller with 10 points and Alexis Smith with 8. Camryn Skowronski led the team with 7 rebounds and Alexis Smith had 8 steals.
Varsity: Catoctin 48 Clear Spring 8
The Lady Cougars with a very balanced attack (all eleven players scored) defeated Clear Spring 48-8 for their 2nd straight home win. Great team defense and unselfish play led to the victory over a scrappy Clear Spring team that was led in scoring by Mills with four points.

Oakdale’s JV
Girls traveled to Poolesville on Sunday and brought home a 35-26 win.
Poolesville trailed by just one at the end of the third period but Oakdale
prevailed as the turnover and foul battle went in their favor. Izzie Dadd and
Selena Robinson of Oakdale led all scorers with 11 points. Chrissy Marshall
chipped in six. Madison Peyton and Hailey Khalil led Poolesville with six points
each with Khalil snagging a team high 13 steals. Erin Green scored five points
for the Falcons.
Varsity: Oackdale 38 Poolesville 37
The
Oakdale-Poolesville Varsity match-up was a back and forth affair with Oakdale
eventually prevailing 38-37. Oakdale’s Emma Bowman (game high 19 points) went
8-for-9 from the line to pace the visitors to the win. Teammate Rachel Bower
chipped in seven, including five in the second quarter. Mollie Bodmer led
Poolesville with 13 hard-earned points. Allie Nevius hit for six and Jami
D’Amelio scored five including hitting a crucial three-pointer in the third
period to give the Falcons the lead.
Varsity: Boonsboro 27 Brunswick 18
In
the opening game for both teams, Boonsboro came out with a 27-18
victory. It was a close game throughout with the second quarter being
the difference as Boonsboro outscored the Lady Railroaders 9-1 in that
span.
Both teams had balanced scoring with six girls each in the scoring column.

For
their second game of the season, the Lady Bulldogs came on strong and
never looked back. Eight of the players scored, making it a true team
effort.
Ruth
Evans contributed fifteen points, Sydney Clayton added twelve points
and Makenzie Holston and Augusta Kamara each had seven points.
Jill
Bender, Jillian Malcolm and Caitlyn Ritz each contributed two points
for Clear spring, with Madeline Buchanan adding the additional point for

made 14-4 run at first half and led the game all the way to end.
Karita Lewis was a leading scorer with 12 points she also made 4 steals
and 6 rebounds. Eve Wood-Jacobowitz contributed her 6 points with 5
steals and 3 assists. Brooke Bonheyo added 6 points with 4 rebounds and 4
assists.

Both teams played extremely hard and the game was tight thorughout. Boonsboro started strong but Brunswick shot well in second quarter to take a 14-11 lead at the half. Abby Harrah led the Lady Warrrriors with 9 points, insluding a nice pull-up three pointer to end the game. Sara Bittinger and Christina Baker each added 4 point. Makenzie Schnur let a balanced attack for the Lady Raoders with 10 points. Isabel Leon added 4 points and 09 rebounds.
JV: Crestwood 10 vs Poolesville

Crestwood
hosted Poolesville in a hard fought game that was played with a lot of heart.
Poolesville started strong and had an 8-2 lead at the half, Delaney leading the
team with 6 points. But Crestwood fought hard in the second half, Elaija DeMeza
went down with an ankle injury in the third quarter after scoring 4 points. End
of the third the score was 9-12, Crestwood fighting for a comeback. Early in the
4th quarter Samantha Campbell went down with an arm injury after
scoring 2 points. Near the end of the game Poolesville went on a scoring run and
the final score was 20-10
Varsity: Crestwood 28 vs Poolesville 25
In a game of two evenly matched teams Crestwood was able to
get some separation late in the second half and hold on to beat a very
determined Poolesville team. The game was back and forth thru out the first
three quarters with neither team able to mount any type of commanding lead.
However late in the third quarter Crestwood was able to go on a rund that put
hem up by ten points. This lead would not hold out as the lady Falcons did not
give in or give up. Thru their determination the created turn overs the had them
with in striking distance to have a chance to win at the end of the
game.
Poolesvile had three players with five points each. Breanne
Hall, Karyn Comfort and Allie Nevius.Lauren lightcap added four points while
Kristen Darast, Casey Harkins and Christina Hilton each scored two
points.
Crestwood was lead in scoring by their team captains Karla
Villicas with ten points and Andrea Mwando with nine points. the other team
leader Ali Penn added five points with critical free throw shooting late in the
game to help seal the win. Sydney Kaiser and Cheyenne Jackson rounded out the
scoring with two points each.
JV: South Hagerstown 16 - Monocacy 14
With Monocacy leading most of the game,South Hagerstown pulled
ahead late in the 4th quarter and held on to defeat Monocacy 16-14.South
was lead in scoring by Sirri Akaya with six points and Sarah Touhey
with four points. Monocacy got a game high seven points from Taqia
Rollins and four points from Jessie Titus.
Varsity: Monocacy 43 - South Hagerstown 26
After a close first half Monocacy got a big 15 point 3rd quarter
and went on to defeat South Hagerstown 43-26. Tyrae Byrd had a game high
16 points with Mollie McSweeney adding 12 points and Makenna McSweeney
with six points.The Rebels had a big game from Bedregal with 11 points
with Small adding six points and Domer chipping in with four points.

Varsity: Ballenger Creek 38 Clear Spring 4
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-2 lead over visiting
Clearspring at the end of the first quarter. Ballenger was led
by Captains Paige Holston and Kim Hammond with 10 points each and
teammate Makayla Bur followed with 8 points. Ballenger had 7 out of 8
players scoring in the contest. Clear Spring was led by Savannah Mills
who had 4 points! The second half Ballenger took control and outscored
Clear Spring 21 to 0. The Lady Bulldogs went on to win the Varsity
Contest 38-4
JV: Williamsport
33 West Frederick 28...
The game was tight down to the end...both teams
played well and it was a hard fought game for both teams...in the end
wfms came up short and should rebound from this game in their next
outing!

33 West Frederick 44.....
The game started out with slow scoring, by
half time the score was 10 to 15 wfms.....in the second half the game
pick up some pace on scoring....wiilamsport kept it close but in the end
wfms started to score and turn up the defense, dickson #13 (
williamsport) prove to be an outstanding foe for wfms with 15pts & 9
in the 3rd quarter.... for wfms king had 16pts.......who prove to play
well through out the game....JV: Windsor Knolls 35 Thomas Johnson 23
An
excellent 4th quarter for Windsor Knolls was the difference in a closely
contested game against Thomas Johnson. The Wolverines lead by just 1
after the first 7 minutes, but pushed it out to a 13-8 lead at the
break. The 3rd quarter saw the Patriots find their offense behind two 3
pointers by Jana Faucett and another by Chante Weedon to close the gap
to 21-19 after 3. But a strong final period by Windsor Knolls,
outscoring TJ 14-4, put the game away, 35-23. Tara Gibson had 13 and
Maddie France had 10 to lead the Wolverines. Weedon lead the Pats with
11, Faucett and Brianna Forbes added 6 apiece.
Varsity: Windsor Knolls 34 Thomas Johnson 30
Visiting
Windsor Knolls jumped out to an early 8 – 0 lead and never trailed in
claiming victory over Thomas Johnson, 34 – 30, in the opener for both
teams. Windsor Knolls was lead by Maddie Cederdahl and Reagan Lohr, with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Cederdahl was deadly from the foul line, going 11 of 14 and hitting key shots from the charity stripe to seal the victory. But not before Thomas Johnson rallied from an eleven point deficit, only to see a Hannah Clingan game tying three point attempt swirl around and rim-out with thirty seconds left
in the game. TJ mounted the comeback starting in the fourth quarter, and despite a clutch three from Lohr mid-way through the period, clawed back until the end when Windsor Knolls cemented the victory from the free throw line. Thomas Johnson was led by Clingan and Abbie Stitley with eight points each, and Alyssa Handelman chipped in six, including a key offensive rebound and conversion late in the game. Brenna Barron, Raeshean Simmons, and Sarah Rouch each contributed two points to round out the scoring for the home team. L. Novesal scored four points, and Hannah Mills contributed one point for the victors.

JV: Springfield 47 Clear Spring 12
Springfield jumped to an early lead and never looked back.
Springfield had 7 players score, led by Jazmine Yost's 15 points while
Diva Bowman and Madison Riley chipped in 8 points each. Clear Spring was
led in scoring by Ashley Ardinger's 6 points and Hannah Bowers with 4
points.
Varsity: Springfield 67 Clear Spring 18
In the season opener for both teams
Springfield established an early lead and went on to post a 67-18
victory. Springfield had a balanced attack with all 11 players scoring.
Celensia Dickson led the way with 13 points while Sami Raidt followed
with 10 points. Clear Spring was led by Katelyn Mills who finished with 8
points
JV: MIddletown 34 vs Crestwood 15
The JV Middletown girls hosted there first regular season game
against Crestwood on Sunday. Middletown girls came out playing strong
with man to man defense and a full court press holding Crestwood to 6
points in the first half. Crestwood fought back in the second half with
their own press causing Middletown several turnovers and scoring 9pts,
holding MIddletwon to only 13pts. Even though both team were unable to
control their team fouls they continued to hussle and play agressively
throughout the whole game.
Helen Holt lead Middletown with 11pts, Leah Stup with 10pts, Hanna
Sledzik with 5pts, Shannon Daley, Kirsten Beckner, and Haven Brandenburg
with 2 pts each and Katie Stottlemyer and Brianna
Cruntchfield contributed 1 pt each. Lyndsey Brant, Alyssa Areny, Helena
Ottenritter and Erin O'Conner also were an essential part with their
agressive defense, hussle and team work. Crestwood high scorer was
Campbell with 8pts, Keene with 5pts and Demeza and O'Brien contributing
1pt each. Final score Middletown 34 Crestwood 15.
Both teams played with heart and intensity which made for an exciting game.
Varsithy: Crestwood 35 at Middletown 31
A good matchup to start the season. Middletown
came out strong in the first half jumping out to a lead. But it wasn’t
enough Andrea Mwando of Crestwood came out strong in the second half,
Andrea lead Crestwood with 13 points and Karla
Villicas added 9 points. For Middletown Emma stokes helped keep her
team close with 8 points. With 3 minutes in the game Middletown looked
for a comeback behind the late scoring of Paige Tarleton who led her
team with 13 points. But Andrea Mwando was too
good from the free throw line going 4 for 4 in the final minute.
JV: Smithsburg 33 St. John's 15
After a
tightly contested battle into the 3rd quarter, Smithsburg pulled away
to beat St. John's 33 to 15. Smithsburg's Haily Bachtell lead all
scorers with 15 points, and was joined by teammate Erica Lindsay as the
games only other double-digit scorer, contributing 10 points. Kenzie
Stout, Megan Bruchey, Brett Grove, and Jensen Bachtell also scored for
Smithsburg. The Lady Vikings were lead by Brook Taylor (#33) with seven
points, who also hit the Vikings first 3-pointer of the season. Sarah
Case (#25) followed with 4 points, and Satreen Hendi (#22) and Paula
Hirshorm (#12) contributed 2 points each. Meghan Carlson (#55) lead
the team in rebounds, while Amber Hitchcock (#54) and Lisa Kneebone
(#11) each had several assists.
Varsity: Smithsburg 8 St. John's 29
St John's beat Smithsburg 29-8. It was a hard fought contest by both teams. After a tight first half,
St. John's
was able to pull away in the second half. St John's was led in
scoring by Tara Butler (#24) with 8 points and Alexis Ogren (#53), who
had 18 rebounds and 7 points. Julie
Brisbane (#10) also
had 7 points and ran the Lady Vikings offense in an accurate fashion.
Clio Kerr (#42) had 3 points, Maddie Abel (#21) had 2 points as did
Riley Wal (#52). Smithsburg was led by Taryn Kershner who had 6 points
and had great efforts given by Lexi Spickler and Lindsay Pennwell.
JV -CATOCTIN 20 BALLENGER CREEK 26
The
leading scorer for Catoctin was Alexis Smith with 8 points followed by
Emily Keller with 5 points. Rebounding was led by Camryn Skowronski
with 6. Carrie Reaver and Micheala Persinger each had 3 steals.
The leading scorers for Ballenger Creek were Tierney with 6 points and Evans with 5 points.
Varsity- CATOCTIN 36 BALLENGER CREEK 33
In a tightly contested season opener the Catoctin Lady Cougars were able to pull out a 36-33 victory over Ballenger Creek with a couple of late free throws by Hannah Gray. Ballenger Creek was very impressive from the outside knocking down six three's throughout the game which led to a five point lead entering the fourth quarter. Catoctin was ed in scoring by Taylor Crum with 18 followed by Hannah Gray with 14, strong guard play by Meghan Jenkins and a team effort on the boards led to the comeback.
JV: MSD 45 - North 17 Returning key
players from last years JV team, MSD rolled past North using an
effective fast break in route to a 22-3, first half lead.

JV: Monocacy 27 - Linganore 14
Monocacy was led in scoring by Jessie Titus with eight
points,Jessie Hoult with seven points,Michaela Joannides with five
points,and Taylor Stafford with four points.Linganorewas led by Kennedi
Ambush with eight points.
Varsity: Monocacy 37 - Linganore 24
After a close first half,Monocacy was able to pull away in the
second half with a big third quater.Monocacy waas led by Mollie
McSweeney with nine points,Tanaisia Jow with eight points,with Tyrae
Byrd and Charlotte Kowalk each getting six points.
Linganore got seven points each from S.Heitzig and L.Schiller and five points each from T.Ridgely and K.Johnson.
JV: St Johns 18 - North 11. St Johns hopped out to an early
lead in the first half and never looked back in route to their first
victory of the season.
Varsity: St Johns 11 - North 16. North used
a stifling zone defense and a well executed half court offense to earn
their first victory of the season. St johns deserves a lot of credit for
keeping the game close for most of the game, as they played with only 6
players.
